In an effort to support emerging composers, lyricists and librettists, the Buck Hill Skytop Music Festival will select a new work that is ready to be explored musically and dramatically and bring it to the stage with a professional creative team and cast.

Producer Eva Price has announced that Benjamin Scheuer, writer and performer of the gripping, highly acclaimed autobiographical solo show The Lion, has been awarded the 2015 ASCAP Foundation Jamie deRoy & friends Songwriting Award. He will receive a grant of $1,250, which will be presented on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Don't Tell Mama will honor the Broadway and cabaret star Karen Mason on Monday March 30 at 7pm, the final performance of the legendary singer's current ten-show major engagement at the club. Mason, who, with the late great Nancy LaMott, opened the Theater District nightspot in November of 1982, also celebrates her own birthday on that night.

La Famiglia, Mishpucha, La Familia, CeMbR, Rat Pack, Broadway and Cabaret, were assembled by producers Laura Slutsky and Jamie at the Friars for a spectacular Jamie deRoy & friends show last night. You had to be in the family or know someone in the family to get into the sold out event. Probably no family gathering had so much fun, good food, and great performances as this one did.

Lives of the Saints, a world premiere collection of delightfully funny and unforgettable short plays by David Ives (All in the Timing, Venus in Fur) and directed by Tony Award winner John Rando (All in the Timing, On The Town, Urinetown), is currently playing at Primary Stages at The Duke on 42nd Street - a NEW 42ND STREET project. It was an emotional and touching night for lovers of Pastrami, Corned Beef, Lox, White Fish, Blintzes, Pickles, Cole Slaw and Mustard at the Friars last night. Cohen Media Group had the screening of The Movie Deliman in the Milton Berle Room. This film by Erik Greenberg Anjou celebrates 160 years of tradition and great stories by the Jewish Deli owners, operators and fanatics who are keeping the lox sliced thin and the Pastrami hot in the Jewish delicatessens that are still thriving around the world. Besides the food, Ziggy Gruber, operator of Kenny and Ziggy's in Houston, Texas is the star of this funny and heartwarming documentary. The film reflects the heart of a vital ethnic history. It's also a love story, not just about the food, but about the preservation of family, laughter and community that remains a fundamental part of a trip to a Jewish Delicatessen. What better place to see the wonderful film than the Friars Club were those traditions are celebrated every day. After the talk back with Ziggy Gruber, Fyvesh Finkel and Erik Greenberg Anjou, maitre d' Giuseppe Tarillo welcomed everyone into the Frank Sinatra Dinning Room. I guess that's what you call Jewish Fusion. It's great "having what the Friars were having".

'I was at the Police Reunion Concert at Madison Square Garden in 2008 and the energy was through the roof,' says vocalist/actress/writer Rosemary Loar at the start of her new show, STING-chronicity, at the Metropolitan Room. 'We were 18,000 strong, each of us challenging ownership of this man's music.' Loar feels special rapport with the oeuvre of Sting (Gordon Sumner, who was Police's lead singer and principal songwriter from 1977-1986, before he launched an incredibly successful solo career) as represented by her earlier show and CD, the celebratory Sting, Stang, Stung (see video of the 2010 show, below). 'We're onto the same zeitgeist,' Loar recently revealed in an interview. 'We're both Catholics and some of his writing is about obsession, guilt and penance.'

At 7pm every Sunday and Monday during the month of March, Karen will return to the legendary cabaret Don't Tell Mama (343 West 46th Street), to the very room that she and Nancy LaMott opened in l982. Mason at Mama's in March is her brand new show with great new arrangements of classics, new songs and some of the music she and her longtime composer/arranger Brian Lasser performed in those early days at Mama's. This engagement will culminate in a special Birthday Celebration on Monday, March 30th. Mason at Mama's In March will be directed by Barry Kleinbort, with Musical Direction and Accompaniment by Christopher Denny.

The ASCAP Foundation Awards Ceremony was held at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Broadwayworld was there. This years recipient of the Masters Award was composer John Corigliano. Mr. Corigliano has also won fiver Grammy's a Pulitzer Prize the Grawemeyer Award and an Academy Award for his many scores and compositions. Rupert Holmes, Composer, Playwright, lyricist, mystery novelist, arranger-conductor, screenwriter, record producer and singer-songwriter received the Foundations George M. Cohan Award which is made possible by the Friars Foundation.

The multi-faceted musical director/arranger/accompanist/composer Alex Rybeck flexed his talent this past Sunday night, sharing songs of every ilk with an appreciatively packed 54 Below. 'Tonight is proof positive that dreams come true, just not how you imagine. I always thought you had to have a hit song to headline an evening here…' Delivered by many of his celebrated singer friends he's worked with often (including the Callaway Sisters, Liz and Ann), entertaining selections from the writer's canon included bossa nova, ballads, musical theater numbers, pop, comic turns, seasonal songs, and 'Serenade,' a haunting piece of music the author composed for his mother which seemed like portraiture: strong, proud, thoughtful, warm, light.
