The Belgrade Theatre has announced a selection of new shows to go on sale for 2017 which is turning out to be a show-stopping year, packed full of music, dance, laughter, drama and family fun.

The Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) One Night Only 2017 Gala, which honored Margaret Alkek Williams for her many contributions to the arts community in Houston, was held on Saturday night at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Becky and Bart McAndrews and Paul-David Van Atta chaired the event.

The Tank will present the world premiere of T.B. SHEETS written by Adam R. Burnett and directed by lisa nevada & Adam R. Burnett.

Cleveland is in the midst of 'The Mac Wellman Homecoming Festival,' presented by Playwrights Local, in partnership with Cleveland State University Department of English, the NEOMFA Creative Writing Program, and the Michael Schwartz Library, with performances by Playwrights Local, Theater Ninjas, convergence-continuum, CSU Department of Theatre & Dance, Baldwin Wallace University Department of Theatre and Dance, and The Manhattan Project-Cleveland Lab.

Julie Andrews' new Netflix series, Julie's Greenroom, premiered last Friday. I didn't expect to like it since it is geared toward younger audiences, but I ended up loving it! It features really catchy songs and many important lessons about all the different parts of the arts: from singing as a group and writing songs together to improv and even clowning. Here are five of my favorite things about the show:

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) is thrilled to announce artistic plans for 2017, which welcome back a group of artists whom the theater has long respected, with new works, new roles and with a new playwright support initiative.

The 7th Annual Shakespeare's Birthday Sonnet Slam will be held Friday, April 21st from 1-4pm at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. The Sonnet Slam features 154 readers of all ages performing all 154 of Shakespeare's Sonnets in numerical order. The event is free to the public. This year, the kickoff Reader for Sonnet #1 will be Maulik Pancholy (30 Rock, Weeds) who appears on the upcoming CBS series Star Trek: Discovery.

Stars of stage and screen will gather Monday, April 3rd to celebrate the life and legacy of Sir Peter Shaffer , much-beloved English playwright and screenwriter known for such iconic works as Equus , Amadeus , and Lettice and Lovage . Shaffer, a Manhattan resident for his last 40 years, died last May at 90, leaving behind loving family and friends, and a body of work that has shaped and influenced the theater scene for decades.

convergence-continuum opens its 2017 season with the Ohio premiere of Harm's Way by Mac Wellman, directed by Clyde Simon. Harm's Way, the darkly humorous fable of an angry man on a rampage through a fantastical wilderness, chronicles the exploits of very angry Santouche as he tries to make sense of his understanding of law and order in a nation of other angry people.

Founded and curated by Glory Kadigan, the annual Playwrights for a Cause benefit, hosted by Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, addresses powerful social and topical issues in our society through the works of prominent playwrights. This year, the event will be Sunday, July 23, and will benefit the New York Civil Liberties Union with 'The Protest Plays,' stories of standing up to injustice written by celebrated authors, CATHERINE FILLOUX, LYLE KESSLER, JOSE RIVERA, and REGINA TAYLOR.

On Friday, March 31 at 7pm EDT, Stand for Rights: A Benefit for the ACLU will stream on Facebook Live as a modern day telethon.

After performances at the National Arts Festival and in Europe, Pieter Toerien proudly presents a limited season of Abrahamse & Meyer's internationally acclaimed HAMLET at Theatre on the Bay in April and Pieter Toerien's Theatre at Montecasino in May. The production transfers to La MaMa in New York City in September 2017.

The characters are as believable as they are over-the-top in Stagecrafters' latest offering The Red Velvet Cake War by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, showing March 24-April 9, at the Baldwin Theatre in downtown Royal Oak.

The all-new trailer for DreamWorks' THE BOSS BABY, titled 'Tale NOT As Old As Time' pokes fun at Disney's highly successful 'Beauty and the Beast.'

Bad Quarto Productions, a theatre company specializing in performing modern theatre using Shakespearean staging techniques, has announced the company for its upcoming production of Cupid's Revenge, an early 1600s play by Shakespeare's contemporaries John Fletcher and Francis Beaumont. 

The John W. Engeman Theater's prduction of JEKYLL & HYDE opened last night and BroadwayWorld was at the after party to celebrate the occasion. 

For the first time in its storied history, NBC's iconic late-night franchise SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, which is delivering its most-watched season in 24 years, will be broadcast live simultaneously across the country for its final four shows of the season — April 15, May 6, 13 and 20.
