The Belgrade Theatre has announced a selection of new shows to go on sale for 2017 which is turning out to be a show-stopping year, packed full of music, dance, laughter, drama and family fun.
The Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) One Night Only 2017 Gala, which honored Margaret Alkek Williams for her many contributions to the arts community in Houston, was held on Saturday night at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Becky and Bart McAndrews and Paul-David Van Atta chaired the event.
Cleveland is in the midst of 'The Mac Wellman Homecoming Festival,' presented by Playwrights Local, in partnership with Cleveland State University Department of English, the NEOMFA Creative Writing Program, and the Michael Schwartz Library, with performances by Playwrights Local, Theater Ninjas, convergence-continuum, CSU Department of Theatre & Dance, Baldwin Wallace University Department of Theatre and Dance, and The Manhattan Project-Cleveland Lab.

Julie Andrews' new Netflix series, Julie's Greenroom, premiered last Friday. I didn't expect to like it since it is geared toward younger audiences, but I ended up loving it! It features really catchy songs and many important lessons about all the different parts of the arts: from singing as a group and writing songs together to improv and even clowning. The 7th Annual Shakespeare's Birthday Sonnet Slam will be held Friday, April 21st from 1-4pm at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. The Sonnet Slam features 154 readers of all ages performing all 154 of Shakespeare's Sonnets in numerical order. The event is free to the public. Stars of stage and screen will gather Monday, April 3rd to celebrate the life and legacy of Sir Peter Shaffer , much-beloved English playwright and screenwriter known for such iconic works as Equus , Amadeus , and Lettice and Lovage . Shaffer, a Manhattan resident for his last 40 years, died last May at 90, leaving behind loving family and friends, and a body of work that has shaped and influenced the theater scene for decades.
convergence-continuum opens its 2017 season with the Ohio premiere of Harm's Way by Mac Wellman, directed by Clyde Simon. Harm's Way, the darkly humorous fable of an angry man on a rampage through a fantastical wilderness, chronicles the exploits of very angry Santouche as he tries to make sense of his understanding of law and order in a nation of other angry people.
