Randolph) for one week only August 30 - September 4, 2016.
The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) today announced the date, creative team, host and venue for the 37th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, the awards show and party that celebrates extraordinary Toronto talent in the performing arts. Dora Awards Producer Jacoba Knaapen announced that the much-anticipated event will take place on Monday, June 27 and that it will, for the third time in a row, be held under the stars at Harbourfront Centre. Although the Royal Alexandra Theatre will close for six months for a major renovation as soon as the show closes, the producers of KINKY BOOTS have managed to squeeze in one more final performance of the immensely popular musical. Producers Daryl Roth, Hal Luftig and David Mirvish announced today that original Broadway cast member Kyle Taylor Parker will join the Toronto company as 'Lola' in the Tony Award-winning musical KINKY BOOTS at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. Now, according to The Wall Street Journal, ATG plans to open a 'British-style club above the Hudson Theatre after it relaunches the historic venue for Broadway use.'
According to Variety, Broadway will be getting another theatre in the near future. The UK's Ambassador Theatre Group, which owns the recently renovated Lyric Theatre, will renovate the Hudson Theatre next. The venue, currently a part of the Millennium Hotel, will be turned back into a Broadway house. Currently used for various corporate events, the theatre hasn't been home to a Broadway show since 1968.
