The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) announces its Winter 2015 Season, featuring performances of Le Petit Cirque, as well as presentersDinaw Mengestu, Scott McCloud, Kim Gordon, and Cristina Henriquez. Kicking off the new year, CHF and Adventure Stage Chicago will present Le Petit Cirque by Laurent Bigot January 17-18, as part of the inaugural Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival.

Share This! Appropriation After Cynicism, curated by Elizabeth Denny, is an exhibition of artists who appropriate the work of other artists. Running from December 14 through January 25, it is a continuation of programming at Denny Gallery that explores alternative modes of exchange between artists, collectors, curators, and exhibitors. Share This! Appropriation After Cynicism will feature work by Brent Birnbaum, Lily Cox-Richard, Matthew Craven, Sean Fader, Nikolai Ishchuk, Michael Mandiberg, Adam Parker Smith, Jordan Tate, and Ana Teles.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) presents productions from the UK and the Netherlands as part of CST's World's Stage Series-Blind Summit's The Table and the US premiere of Freeze! from performer Nick Steur, January 14-25, 2015. These offerings headline the inaugural Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival, a celebration of dynamic and inventive puppet performance in cultural institutions across the city. Returning to Chicago Shakespeare from the UK after a critically acclaimed run in 2013, The Table features the unforgettable Moses, a cantankerous and loveable puppet with a cardboard head facing an existential crisis-on a table. In Freeze!, Dutch performer Nick Steur astounds audiences as he artfully balances stones without glue or other manipulations, challenging traditional conceptions of performance to dazzling effect. At the forefront of exciting international theater practices, The Table and Freeze! are performed in tandem at Chicago Shakespeare throughout the two week-long festival.

The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to announce Puppets!, an interactive installation for all ages celebrating the art of puppetry, opening December 6, 2014, and continuing through June 6, 2015. Puppets! will include unique performances, puppet-making workshops, and the opportunity for visitors to the Art Institute's Ryan Education Center to interact and explore creativity through puppets. Inspiration for these fantastical and imaginative puppet creations are drawn from works in the Art Institute's collection, including the monumental drawing The Temptation of St. Anthony, the centerpiece of this winter's special exhibition, Temptation: The Demons of James Ensor. Puppeteers of all ages can experiment with ways to develop stories and use sound effects and props in order to create playful, one-of-a-kind performances.

The exhibition, which will run from today, November 11, 2014, through March 8, 2015, will feature the Art Institute's own Ascending and Descending Hero, an important early black-and-white painting, alongside Continuum, the artist's only sculptural work, and two of her 'stripe' paintings.
