The House Theatre of Chicago to Stage World Premiere of THE LAST DEFENDER This Winter

The House Theatre of Chicago presents the world premiere of THE LAST DEFENDER at the Chopin Theatre Downstairs Theatre, 1543 W. Division St., Thursday, Jan. 21 - Sunday, March 13, 2016 written and directed by Artistic Director Nathan Allen, with puzzle design by Sandor Weisz and art direction by DC Comic Artist and Company Member Chris Burnham.

Asking the patrons to “wear white” for this “peaceful stretch”, Museum is also making “Henna tattoos” available at the event.

U.S. Artist JEFRE Creates TALKING HEADS Permanent Installation in Manila

Manila, The Philippines -- JEFRË (Jefrë Manuel Figueras) has just created Talking Heads, a permanent installation featuring six large sculptures in the lobby of SM Prime's Five Ecom Center Building in Manila, The Philippines. JEFRË is the first  artist to have work commissioned by SM Prime, which is one of the largest real estate  developers in Southeast Asia.  

Lowe Art Museum to Welcome Magnum Photographers for Lecture Series

The Lowe Art Museum will host A Conversation with Magnum Photographers: Carolyn Drake, Thomas Hoepker, Susan Meiselas, Martin Parr, and Alec Soth as part of The Arnold and Augusta Newman Lecture Series in Photography on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. This lecture, which will take the form of a panel discussion with the five photographers, will take place at 7:00 pm in the University of Miami Shalala Student Center Ballroom. Theatre, Dance & More on Tap for JACK's Winter/Spring 2016 Season

Clinton Hill cultural hub and OBIE award-winner JACK launches its winter/spring 2016 season with an a cappella opera set in Zimbabwe by composer Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa, a weekend of curated works by Modesto "Flako" Jimenez, the premiere of the dirty and bracing play Tom & Eliza, by Celine Song, the English-language premiere of Argentinian playwright Rafael Spregelburd's SPAM, The Geneva Project by Jennifer Harrison Newman, Antonio Ramos' Thirsty Mind, love and starvation sitting in a lonely tree and an exploration in minimalist/pop art performance by the No Face Performance Group.  JACK also engineers the return of Walter Dundervill's ARENA (which had two sold-out runs at JACK in 2014 and 2015).

Scarlett Johansson to Receive 2016 Renaissance Award From Gene Siskel Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center (GSFC) of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) will celebrate one of Hollywood's most talented young actresses when it pays tribute to Tony and BAFTA winner and four-time Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson, Saturday, June 11, 2016, at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago (160 E. Pearson St.). 'Celebrate Scarlett' will pay tribute to Johansson's accomplishments as an actor as well as give attendees the opportunity to hear an intimate conversation providing insights into her creative process and influences, favorite roles, upcoming projects and more. A retrospective of film clips from some of her most memorable performances will accompany the conversation highlighting her illustrious career. The evening will culminate with the presentation of the Gene Siskel Film Center Renaissance Award to Johansson by SAIC President Dr. Walter E. Massey and GSFC Advisory Board Chair Ellen Sandor.

The Art Institute of Chicago will unveil on December 13, 2015 its unprecedented Edlis/Neeson gift, announced earlier this year, in an installation titled The New Contemporary . The gift of 44 iconic masterpieces, including works by such artists as Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Cindy Sherman, and more, provides the focal point for the multidimensional installation of paintings, photographs, and sculptures that offers visitors a rich and innovative presentation of contemporary art and a new experience of the museum's exceptional permanent collection and the Modern Wing. 

Newark Museum Acquires Large-Scale Norman Lewis Painting

NEWARK - On November 5, the Newark Museum Board of Trustees approved the acquisition of a major work by the Abstract Expressionist painter Norman Lewis (1909-79). Untitled, 1953 was acquired from Michael Rosenfeld Gallery in New York.
