BWW Reviews: THE ICEMAN COMETH, a Four-Hour Marathon at Ensemble

Eugene O'Neill, along with such writers as Anton Chekhov, Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg, transformed western theatre. They transitioned the stage from a place for escapist ideas into a mecca for the examination of real life problems. The quartet laid the foundation for what is now known as 'the modern theatre' and laid the groundwork for such luminaries as Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams and William Inge.

MANCHESTER SOUND, THE SEAGULL and More Set for Library Theatre's 2013-14 Season

The world premiere in June 2013 of Manchester Sound: The Massacre, in which the Peterloo Massacre of 1819 clashes with the city's second Summer of Love in 1989, directed by Paul Jepson and written by Polly Wiseman; a revival for autumn 2013 of Educating Rita, Willy Russell's marvellous heart-warming comedy; Wanted! Robin Hood, a new adaptation for Christmas 2013 of the classic Robin Hood story by Charles Way, directed by Amy Leach; and the first regional production of Anya Reiss's contemporary translation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull for spring 2014 are the next four productions from Manchester's Library Theatre Company, the company's final programme under the Library Theatre Company banner prior to the Library's move with Cornerhouse to HOME.

South Coast Rep and La Jolla Playhouse Partner with CTG for NEVA at Kirk Douglas Theatre, 6/11-16

NEVA, written and directed by Guillermo Calderon, in an English translation by Andrea Thome, will be co-produced by the South Coast Repertory and La Jolla Playhouse in A DouglasPlus Workshop Presentation in the Kirk Douglas Theatre rehearsal room, Upstairs @ KDT. Performances begin June 11 and continue through June 16, 2013.

Guthrie Director Joe Dowling today announced 12 mainstage productions of the theater's 2013-2014 season. The theater's 51st season includes first-time Guthrie productions of playwrights Beth Henley and Nina Raine, classics on the Wurtele Thrust Stage directed by Dowling and Marion McClinton, WorldStage Series presentations of returning companies Kneehigh Theatre and Out of Joint, as well as a summertime slate of a beloved musical and a Christopher Durang comedy that is currently a Broadway hit.

John Doyle Joins Classic Stage Company Team as Associate Director

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, announced today that acclaimed Tony Award-winning director John Doyle will join the company for its 2013/2014 season as an Associate Director. Doyle, who directed and designed the company's current highly-acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical PASSION, will develop his own projects for CSC, contribute leadership for CSC's new Musical Theatre Initiative (for which PASSION was the launch production) and consult with Artistic Director Brian Kulick over season planning and other creative aspects of CSC's artistic programming.

Attic Theater to Present NY Premiere of Tennessee Williams' THE NOTEBOOK OF TRIGORIN at The Flea, 5/3-18

The Attic Theater Company will present the New York premiere of Tennessee Williams' THE NOTEBOOK OF TRIGORIN, directed by Laura Braza. Williams' adaptation of Anton Chekov's THE SEAGULL, THE NOTEBOOK OF TRIGORIN will be performed at The Flea (41 White Street -between Broadway & Church Streets) from Friday, May 3rd through Saturday, May 18th, 2013. THE NOTEBOOK OF TRIGORIN's Press Opening will be on Wednesday, May 8th.

WaterTower Theatre today announced the cast for Black Time, running May 31 - June 23, 2013 at the Addison Theatre Centre on the Main Stage. The cast includes Stan Graner as Curtis, John S. Davies as Curtis' Father, Marcia Carroll as Mimi, Katherine Bourne as Elsie, Jordon Brodess as Teddy and Jake Buchanan understudying the role of Teddy.

The Geffen Playhouse announces nine plays for the 2013/2014 season: three world premieres/adaptations, three West Coast premieres and two productions of familiar works from Pulitzer or Nobel Prize winning playwrights. Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present a new production of Bertolt Brecht's THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE featuring Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), directed by Brian Kulick (who directed Brecht's Galileo last season), and featuring new music by Tony Award-winning singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE will begin performances Friday, May 3 at CSC (136 East 13th Street) for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 9. The official opening is Thursday, May 30. Tickets are now on sale.
