The producers of ANNIE announced this evening that the show will play its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Upon closing, the production, which opened on November 8, 2012 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street), will have played 487 performances and 38 previews.
Deadline.com reports that Bobby Cannavale will be joining the new ANNIE film remake, alongside Quvenzhane Wallis, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Rose Byrne. Cannavale will play a political advisor for Foxx's character, who is running for mayor of New York.
The Broadway at Birdland concert series welcomed Broadway's Clarke Thorell in Songs I Wish I'd Written for one night only, Monday, August 5 at 7pm. The concert featured songs by Harry Nilsson, Paul McCartney, Adam Guettel, Lambert, Hendricks & Ross, Elvis Costello, Chris Thile, and Sting. Joining Clarke were Musical Director/pianist Dan Lipton, along with singers Brian d'Arcy James, Cortes Alexander, Haven Burton and Jim Caruso. According to Deadline.com, after Sandra Bullock pulled out of talks for upcoming Annie film remake as 'Miss Hannigan', Sony has quickly lined up and signed on her replacement - Cameron Diaz. The studio is also now aiming for a Christmas 2014 release.
