The Stephen Sondheim Society and Mercury Musical Developments recently announced the winners of the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year and Stiles + Drewe Prize. NINE, MAJOR BARBARA, Kurt Weill Show and More Set for SU Drama's 2016-17 Season

The Syracuse University Department of Drama packs three musicals, a wild comedy, a classic Shaw, and a never-before-produced contemporary comedy into a season full of surprises and infrequently performed theatrical gems. Beginning with the musical Nine, the 2016/2017 season includes Laura and the Sea, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins (co-produced with Syracuse Stage), The King Stag, Major Barbara, and From Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage.

Julian Ovenden to Host Gala to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Stiles + Drewe Prize, May 15

The Stephen Sondheim Society and Mercury Musical Developments today announce the 10thanniversary West End Gala for the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year and Stiles + Drewe Prize. To mark this special landmark occasion, the 2016 competition is being staged at the Novello Theatre in London on Sunday 15 May, hosted by star of stage and screen Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey, Sunday in the Park with George, Merrily We Roll Along, Sondheim 80th Birthday Prom). In addition to this, among this year's judges will be Don Black,Jason Carr, Anne Reid MBE, Sondheim Society Patron Julia McKenzie and Olivier Award-nominated actress Sophie-Louise Dann, reuniting her with Ovenden after they performed together in Sunday in the Park with George at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. Furthermore, writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson will Chair the Student Performer judging panel.

Retired bank manager Henry Pulling is happy alone with his dahlias until he meets his decidedly bohemian Aunt Augusta who, having rattled the family skeletons, persuades the reluctant Henry to flee to Europe. He finds himself in a luxurious whirl through Paris and Istanbul and on to South America; but alongside the romance and first-class thrills, there's a lot Henry doesn't know about his aunt - particularly why she has so many grateful men dotted around the globe.

Amelia Community Theatre to Welcome MARY POPPINS This Spring

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's MARY POPPINS, with Original Music & Lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, Book by Julian Fellowes, New Songs and Additional Music & Lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, co-created by Cameron Mackintosh, will make its Northeast Florida premiere with Amelia Community Theatre, April 14-30, 2016.

THE WIND AND THE WILLOWS Announces Open Auditions, April 22

The highly-anticipated major new musical theatre adaptation of THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS will hold open auditions this month, ahead of its world premiere in Autumn 2016. Auditions will be held at The Lowry in Salford on 22nd Apriland at Rambert in London on 23rd April. Adapted for the stage by Julian Fellowes, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS will open at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth from 8th October 2016, followed by The Lowry in Salford and Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

Sherman, book by Julian Fellowes, new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and co-created by Cameron Mackintosh. MARY POPPINS will play February 28 - March 27, 2016 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago. The press opening is Wednesday, March 2 at 8 pm.
