City Opera Presents 'I'M ON MY WAY' For Black History 1/28

In honor of Black History Month, City Opera co-presents a three-part series, Black History at New York City Opera, with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The first program, 'I'm on My Way': Black History at City Opera on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, commemorates the rich African-American contributions to City Opera's heritage and the great African-American works and artists who have graced City Opera's stage. Continuing with 'One Fine Day': A Tribute to Camilla Williams on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 and 'Troubled Island': 60th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the programs feature discussion, live performance, special guests, historic slides and audio and video clips. All three events take place at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, located at 15 Malcolm X Boulevard in New York City.

Avery Brooks To Tackle Willy Loman in Oberlin's Production of 'Salesman'

Avery Brooks, the distinguished stage, film and television actor known for his celebrated performances in roles from the classics to science fiction, will portray one of the American theater's most tragic figures, Willy Loman, in a radical new interpretation of Arthur Miller's modern classic, Death of a Salesman from Sept. 18 to 21 at Oberlin College's Hall Auditorium in Oberlin, Ohio.

New Production of 'Amistad' to Headline Spoleto Festival

A new production of a freshly revised version of composer Anthony Davis's epic work Amistad will headline the 2008 Spoleto Festival USA. Directed by Sam Helfrich with costumes by Kaye Voyce and an imaginative set by Caleb Wertenbaker, this highly anticipated new production will inaugurate the reopening of Memminger Auditorium, an historic theater in downtown Charleston that has just undergone extensive rehabilitation.

Jackson Browne to Speak at 3rd Annual ASCAP 'I Create Music' Expo

ASCAP President and Chairman Marilyn Bergman is pleased to announce that singer-songwriter and 2004 ASCAP Founders Award honoree Jackson Browne will be a special guest at the 3rd annual ASCAP 'I Create Music' EXPO on April 10. Browne will be interviewed and will answer questions from the audience of songwriters and composers. The EXPO will take place April 10-12 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
