Lisa Kron to Host 30th Annual Bessie Awards; Presenters and Performances Also Announced

NEW YORK, September 30, 2014 - The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced today the host of the anniversary ceremony that is to be held at the legendary Apollo Theater. Broadway playwright, actress and 1993 Bessie awardee Lisa Kron will host the 30th Annual Bessie Awards. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, the awards will take place October 20, 7:30 p.m. Nominees will arrive starting 6:00 p.m. for Red Carpet press interviews and photo opportunities.

Northrop at University of Minnesota Kicks Off 2014-15 Season

Northrop at the University of Minnesota announces its 2014//15 Northrop Season, featuring two iconic modern dance companies, five international troupes, four evening length works, four world-class ballet companies, and one music performance. This will be the first full season back at Northrop after the revitalization. The new season reflects Northrop's 96-year tradition of presenting innovative and world-renowned artists, all of which will be presented by Northrop on the Carlson Family Stage, except for one copresented event at Walker Art Center.

30th Annual Bessie Award Nominees Announced; Ceremony Set for Oct 20 at the Apollo

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, celebrates a milestone 30th anniversary this year. Today, the 36 nominees for the 2013-14 season were announced at a press conference by members of The Bessies Selection Committee. The nominations (listed below) were selected by an independent committee of 40 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Production, Outstanding Visual Design, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design and Outstanding Revival.

FringeArts Announces 2014 Fringe Festival Programming

Tickets are on sale now for "Presented" shows in the 2014 Fringe Festival presented by FringeArts, bringing the world's most daring and innovative performers to Philadelphia stages for the 18th year in a row from September 5-21. The 2014 Fringe Festival is supported by Presenting Sponsor PNC, through the PNC Arts Alive initiative. The Lincoln Motor Company is the Official Automotive Sponsor of the Festival.

MACBETH Opera Opens Tonight at Artscape

In this radical take on Verdi's MACBETH, conceptualised, designed and directed by Brett Bailey, Shakespeare's story of ambition, treachery and witchcraft is set in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa, amongst the wars and ruthless exploitation that tear this invisible corner of the world apart. Within a milieu of multinational double-dealings, ethnic conflict, brutal militia, 'blood minerals' and glittering Chinese imports, a Congolese warlord and his ambitious wife murder their leader and unleash atrocities on the crumbling African province that they seize.

2014 Lincoln Center Festival to Kick Off 7/7; Single Tickets On Sale 3/31

Single tickets will go on sale on March 31 for ALL Lincoln Center Festival presentations. The festival, which runs from July 7 through August 16, 2014, with performances by artists and ensembles from 11 countries, and a co-presentation with Park Avenue Armory, will take place in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus.

New York Live Arts to Present FRESH TRACKS, 12/19-21

New York Live Arts will present Fresh Tracks, the latest installment of the Fresh Tracks Performance and Residency Program, December 19 - 21 at 7:30pm. The 2013-14 Fresh Tracks Artists include Martita Abril, Maximilian Balduzzi, Ben Grinberg and Nick Gillette, Daniel Holt, Leslie Parker and Gabrielle Revlock.

Gregory Maqoma/Vuyani Dance Theatre Returns to REDCAT with 'Exit/Exist'

In Exit/Exist, renowned South African choreographer Gregory Maqoma reinvigorates African oral and musical tradition with contemporary movement to explore his family's ancestral heritage as a way of understanding the complexities of our contemporary world. Now touring the U.S., Exit/Exist will have its West Coast premiere at REDCAT, Calarts' downtown center for contemporary arts Thursday, November 7 to Sunday, November 10.

BAM Kicks Off 34 Events in Opera, Theater, Music and Dance for 2013 Next Wave Festival

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy Of Music, presents the 2013 Next Wave Festival. The festival runs from today, September 17 through December 22 and comprises opera, theater, music, and dance productions in the institution's three mainstage venues: the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, the BAM Harvey Theater, and the BAM Richard B. Fisher Building.

Lincoln Center Festival Kicks Off Tonight, 7/5; Full Listings

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, announced the Festival's line-up, which runs from tonight, July 5 through August 5, 2012. Theater offerings include Mikhail Baryshnikov in Dmitry Krymov's staging of a new play, In Paris, as well as Sydney Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya directed by Tamas Ascher and adapted by Andrew Upton. The stellar cast includes John Bell, Cate Blanchett, Hayley McElhinney, Richard Roxburgh, and Hugo Weaving.
