Described by Stephen King as 'the quintessential ghost story,' The Turn of the Screw was originally published in serialized form and eventually became one of James' most famous works. James added a new spin to the traditional ghost story by writing it entirely from the governess' perspective, leaving the reader to interpret her account's accuracy and truthfulness. The play, for ages 5 and up, follows the story lines of three of Henkes' much loved books, Chester's Way, Julius, Baby of the World, and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. 'Lilly and her friends are charismatic personalities, and kids can easily relate to those characters and the events that occur throughout the play,' says Anne Hering, Orlando Shakes Director of Education. 'Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse focuses on lessons about family, friendship, behavior, responsibility, forgiveness, learning from mistakes, and it celebrates the power of imagination.'
