Ann Arbor's Penny Seats Theatre Company is set to begin rehearsals for its fourth summer residency at the West Park Band Shell. This year the group will present Sophocles' Elektra, translated by former University of Michigan professor Anne Carson and directed by Penny Seats co-founder Russ Schwartz.
Fergus Linehan, Director Designate of Edinburgh International Festival, succeeds the current Festival Director Jonathan Mills on 1 October 2014, and is currently planning the 2015 to 2019 Festivals. Fergus will maintain and build on the Festival's leading position as a multi-artform Festival, bringing major international orchestras, classical artists and opera, dance and theatre companies to Edinburgh.
Sideshow Theatre Company is pleased to announce its full 2014/15 Season, beginning this fall with the Midwest premiere of Aaron Posner's comic spin on Chekhov's The Seagull, STUPID f**kING BIRD, directed by artistic director Jonathan L. Green. In March 2015, the season continues with Anne Carson's ANTIGONICK, a modern re-imagining of the Greek tragedy Antigone, also directed by Green and choreographed by Katie Spelman. The season concludes next spring with the rolling world premiere (with Fresh Ink Theatre in Boston) of CHALK, a sci-fi fable by ensemble member Walt McGough, directed by ensemble member Megan A. The Fellowship supports choreographers at critical stages in their careers and reflects City Center's long history of nurturing dance makers, from George Balanchine to Christopher Wheeldon.
Ruth Ozeki's A Tale for the Time Being saw off competition last night from Anne Carson, Thomas Pynchon, Patrick Ness and James Smyth to secure the Red Tentacle (Novel) award. It was selected by a panel made up by fellow authors Kate Griffin, Nick Harkaway and Will Hill; TED fellow Anab Jain; and whitefox founder Annabel Wright.

The dance will be seen in preview at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C., November 8-10.
