As we welcome in a new year of great theatre in the nation's capital, I thought it would be fun to do one of those “Best of 2010' lists as well as preview what's opening in January on DC area stages. So let's raise our glasses and offer a toast to all those theatre companies who gave us great productions in 2010, and to the upcoming 2011 theatre season!

Official: Tyne Daly to Star in MASTER CLASS at MTC May 2011

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) announced that Tony and Emmy Award winner Tyne Daly will return to Manhattan Theatre Club as Maria Callas in a new Broadway production of Terrence McNally's award-winning play MASTER CLASS directed by Stephen Wadsworth.

Philadelphia Theatre Company spells F-U-N when it opens its 35th Anniversary mainstage season with the multiple Tony Award winner The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with music and lyrics by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin, and conceived by Rebecca Feldman, running November 12-December 12 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets).

MTC Explores Brininging McNally's MASTER CLASS to Broadway in Spring 2011 with Tyne Daly

As BroadwayWorld reported last month, the Manhattan Theater Club was in talks to bring the Kennedy Center production of MASTER CLASS, which ran this Spring, starring Tyne Daly to Broadway in the Summer of 2011. The play is aiming for the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in June. An Equity casting notice released today a new production of MASTER CLASS with Tyne Daly is one of the projects under consideration for MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre for the Spring of 2011.

Women's Project Publishes Anthology of Plays by Young Female Playwrights

Out of Time and Place: An Anthology of Plays by Members of the Women's Project Playwrights Lab, Volumes 1 & 2, the long overdue anthology of plays by a group of contemporary female writers, will go on sale after a free reading by eight of the playwrights at The Drama Book Shop, 250 West 40th Street, Friday, December 3, at 5:00pm.

Women's Project Presents APPLE COVE, Previews 1/29/2011

Women's Project, the 33-year-old non-profit theater dedicated to producing plays written and directed by women, announced at its annual meeting Tuesday night (11/16) that it will present the premiere of Lynn Rosen's comedy, Apple Cove, directed by Giovanna Sardelli and starring Cassie Beck, Paul Carlin, Erin Gann, Allison Mack and Dion Mucciacito.
