Tina Benko stars in Jackie, the North American premiere of the play by Nobel Prize winning Austrian Elfriede Jelinek, best known in the United States for her novel The Piano Teacher and the 2001 film based on it. Directed by Tea Alagic from the English translation by Gitta Honegger, Jackie opens tonight, March 5, at 7:30pm at Women's Project Theater's new home, New York City Center Stage II, 131 West 55th Street.

United Solo Festival Invites Submissions For Its New Season

Local and international artists are invited to submit their shows to the world's largest solo theatre festival. Proposals may represent all varieties of solo performance, including storytelling, puppetry, dance, improv, stand-up, magic, drama, and others. Selected shows will be presented between October 3 and November 24, 2013 at Theatre Row in New York City.

FOX Restructures Current Programming Team, Adds New Event Series

Sundance Institute Begins 2013 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation

The Sundance Institute Theatre Program has begun the 2013 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation. The 13th annual writing colony at the 20,000-acre working cattle ranch outside of Sheridan, Wyo. takes place through February 22 and provides a supportive environment for artists to create new work and receive guidance and reactions to it at an early stage. Under the supervision of Philip Himberg, Artistic Director of the Theatre Program, and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Playwrights Retreat is made possible through the generosity of Ucross Foundation.

Anna Deavere Smith to Receive the 19th Annual Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize

The Gish Prize Trust today announced that playwright, actress, author and educator Anna Deavere Smith has been selected to receive the 19th annual Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, given annually as a legacy from the legendary film and stage actresses. Established in 1994, it is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards in the arts and is also one of the largest, currently bearing a cash value of approximately $300,000. Throughout the years, the Prize's mission has helped to support artists who have pushed the boundaries of their art forms and contributed to social change, therefore paving the way for future generations of artistic innovators.

A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program Announces A DOLL'S HOUSE and TARTUFFE in February

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Conservatory Director Melissa Smith announced today that the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program will present two classic works this February: Henrik Ibsen's classic drama A Dolls' House and Molière's hilarious farce Tartuffe. All performances take place at A.C.T.'s Hastings Studio Theater (77 Geary Street, San Francisco).Tickets for each performance are $20 and are available by calling the A.C.T. MacArthur "genius" and Obie-winning, actress-playwright-professor, Anna Deavere Smith, transforms herself into a cast of colorful, intriguing characters on The Eccles stage, Saturday, January 12. "An Evening with Anna Deavere Smith" features a selection of poignant, hilarious and heart-wrenching pieces from Smith's award-winning, one-woman shows. The theatrical tour-de-force begins at 7:30 p.m.

The theatre, which opened on December 20, 1912 with a Peg O'My Heart starring Laurette Taylor, is currently home to the Broadway Premiere of Grace, which will end its limited engagement on January 6, 2013. It will next be home to the World Premiere production of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, a new play written by Richard Greenberg, which starts performances on Monday, March 4 and opens on Wednesday, March 20. Conservatory at Shakespeare & Company Presents KING JOHN, 12/14 & 15

Shakespeare & Company has announced The Conservatory at Shakespeare & Company's winter production of King John, directed by longtime Company artist, and star of this summer's critically acclaimed production of Cassandra Speaks, Tod Randolph. Now in its sixth year, the Conservatory, a 13-week professional actor training program includes 10 - 16 promising actors from across the country and around the globe. This year's program features a group of 16 who will join forces in Shakespeare's rarely produced King John for three special performances in the Tina Packer Playhouse.
