The stars of the Broadway smash hit Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter, just discussed their Grammy Nominated Originally Broadway Cast Recording at the Apple Store Soho (103 Princes Street, NYC) on yesterday, December 16. Tony Award-winner Jessie Mueller was joined by her Tony Award nominated co-stars Anika Larsen and Jarrod Spector ('Cynthia Weil' and 'Barry Mann') and Musical Director Jason Howland for a performance and discussion moderated by journalist Suzy Evans (a contributor to Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times and more). The 26th annual edition of Gypsy of the Year raised a record-breaking $5,229,611 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, thanks to six weeks of fundraising by 64 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies. The grand total was announced Tuesday, December 9, 2014, by special guests Hugh Jackman, Nathan Lane and Judith Light after two stellar performances of original dances, songs and skits by more than 200 'gypsies' from Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. The unique concert album marks the recording premiere of the marvelously spooky one-man Off-Broadway musical, which features book by Tom Cone, music by Skip Kennon and lyrics by Ellen Fitzhugh (based on the play by Tom Cone), with Wong playing twelve characters. It was recorded live at a special event at Dixon Place in New York City. The album - produced by Scott Lehrer with Emmy Award-winner and Grammy Award-nominee Michael Croiter (Matilda, Big Fish, Heathers) serving as executive producer and Dan Lipton as musical director and associate producer - will be available online and in stores today, December 2.
