Three Plays from Ma-Yi Theater on Tap for A.C.T.'s 2017 New Strands Residency

Today, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)'s Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced the first projects to be chosen for A.C.T.'s inaugural New Strands Residency program. Three playwrights/plays from New York City's acclaimed Ma-Yi Theater Company will participate.
A.C.T.'s Community Space-Sharing Initiative Renamed ArtShare

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced today that A.C.T.'s Community Space-Sharing Initiative (CSSI) has been renamed ArtShare. Created in 2012, the community space-sharing initiative provides free performance space for small and mid-sized companies without permanent performance space, as well as independent artists, who would benefit from being in residence at one of A.C.T.'s spaces in the Central Market area-The Costume Shop (1117 Market St.), A.C.T.'s 49-seat black-box venue, andThe Rueff, a multi-use event and performance space located at A.C.T.'s Strand Theater (1127 Market St.). ArtShare is made possible by generous support from the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, the Zellerbach Family Foundation, and the San Francisco Neighborhood Arts Collaborative.
American Conservatory Theatre Launches New Strands Residency program

Today, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.)'s Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald announced the inaugural New Strands Residency, giving emerging and established American playwrights the opportunity to create and develop new works in residence at A.C.T.'s state-of-the-art Strand Theater, located in the heart of San Francisco's Central Market neighborhood. Each year, A.C.T. will partner with a nationally recognized new-work incubator to select three playwrights, who will spend a week in San Francisco. Over the course of their residency, the playwrights will participate in a reading of their work, develop and workshop their plays-in-progress with directors and a shared ensemble of actors, and sit on various panel discussions. The New Strands Residency culminates with a free public presentation of their work during A.C.T.'s annual New Strands Festival, now in its second year, taking place May 19-21, 2017.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Carey Perloff is thrilled to announce the appointment of Andy Donald as the company's new Associate Artistic Director. Andy will take on producing and presenting duties within the artistic department, as well as taking the lead in the commissioning and development of new work. Andy will begin his role as Associate Artistic Director on July 5, 2016.

In 2014, New Jersey Performing Arts Centerlaunched the Stage Exchange series, where cutting-edge new play development meets insightful community dialogue. Heading into its second year, NJPAC announces an inaugural commissioning program as part of the Stage Exchange. Following the commission period and staged reading at NJPAC, each play will receive a world premiere in the 2016-17 season at a New Jersey theater.
