Today in 2011, In the Heights closed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it ran for 1184 performances. In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegria Hudes. The story explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights. The Broadway production was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, winning four: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography (Andy Blankenbuehler), and Best Orchestrations (Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman). It was also a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

As Broadway's Hamilton continues to work out problems which resulted from a massive response to the musical's new online lottery system, creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda returned for a special #Ham4Ham show in front of the Richard Rodgers Theatre this evening. To celebrate the 'HAMILTON fever' that crashed the show's lottery website yesterday, cast member Sydney Harcourt performed the classic tune 'Fever.' Watch the performance below!
UPDATE: HAMILTON Will Hold Live Lottery Tomorrow While Digital Kinks Are Being Worked Out

As BroadwayWorld reported yesterday, the daily $10 lottery at the Broadway musical Hamilton will move online for the winter starting today, January 5. The live lottery and live Ham4Ham show will return in the spring.
It's just the first day of the new system and already the site has crashed due to high traffic. We can see that engineers are on the case, so stay tuned to BroadwayWorld throughout the day for updates!
