La MaMa ETC - one of the standard-bearers of experimental theater in New York and around the globe since it was founded in 1961 by the inimitable Ellen Stewart - will rename its Annex theater the Ellen Stewart Theater at a gala entitled 'Celebrating Ellen' on Sunday, November 1 at 4 p.m. at the Annex, it has been announced by Mia Yoo, Associate Artistic Director of La MaMa, and Frank Carucci, President of the theater's Board of Directors.

Tony Award winner Bill Irwin, Meredith Monk, John Kelly and Peggy Shaw will be featured performers at La MaMa's 'Celebrating Ellen' fundraising event benefiting the non-profit theater on November 1 in the company's Annex Theatre.

In a rare, if not unprecedented move, theatergoers can bid for their own, private performance of a new musical, DAYS AND NIGHTS: TWO CHEKHOVIAN INTERLUDES being presented this fall at La Mama ETC (74A E. 4 St.) in New York City from September 17 to October 4.

The League of Professional Theatre Women, a non-profit organization committed to promoting visibility and increasing opportunities for women in the professional theatre, is pleased to announce its new slate of officers. These women will serve as leaders of the League for a two-year term, from July 1, 2009 until June 30, 2011.

Annex (66 East 4th Street) in Manhattan, with previews beginning May 28, prior to an official press opening Sunday, May 31. Conceived, written, and directed by the legendary Ellen Stewart, AESCULAPIUS tells how the son of sun god Apollo and mortal maiden Coronis transcends to his rightful place in the heavens because of his great work in medicine. It is believed that Aesculapius' story has never before been told on stage.

Horses at the Window is a penetrating, playful examination of the women who wait patiently at home for their fighting men.

Trap Door Theatre's critically acclaimed Horses at the Window, a wildly physical parody of war's elusive grip on our hearts and minds, is going to Romania! The work will be re-mastered to perform in a 16th century church in the Carpathian Mountains at International Theatre Festival in Sibiu (Sibfest) and at the world renowned National Theatre in Bucharest.
