Ian Merrill Peakes begins and ends his role as 'Timon of Athens' standing in the center of Folger Shakespeare Theatre's stage. At the start, he's basking in his glory as a prosperous master of the universe, happily dispersing his gold; in the end he's alone, torn down, penniless emotionally, at the mercy of gods, or fate, or something quite different than the riches that once defined him.

Theater For The New City's has selected Eileen Connolly and Sean Roschman's new theatrical collaboration, Daughter Of The Waves, to have its world premiere during their 2014 Dream Up Festival.
The Miami Herald reported last week that 'Sotto Voce' by Nilo Cruz, which Theater for the New City commissioned and produced for its world premiere February 15 to March 9, will be staged by legendary director Peter Brook in a French version in the future, with other versions to follow. Mr. Brook, Director of Theatre du Nord in Paris, was quoted as calling the play 'beautiful.'

Asolo Repertory is presents events leading up the Spanish performances of Hamlet, Prince of Cuba. Set in late 19th century Cuba, the show is currently enjoying a run in English at Asolo Rep and will have two performances in Spanish with English supertitles on May 3 at 8 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m. After concluding its run in Sarasota, the show will move to the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center in Miami where there will be both English and supertitled Spanish performances May 11-13. Hamlet, Prince of Cuba features guest artist Frankie J. Alvarez as Hamlet, Gisela Chipe (of Asolo Rep's Yentl) as Ophelia, Emilio Delgado as Claudius (known for his role as Luis on Sesame Street), Mercedes Herrero as Gertrude and Andhy Mendez as Laertes.
