Maureen McVerry Stars In 42 Street Moon's WILDCAT 5/7 - 5/24

42nd Street Moon?s 2008/09 season draws to a close with Maureen McVerry starring in Cy Coleman?s rip-roaring musical treat, Wildcat, book by N. Richard Nash, lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, and music by Cy Coleman. The show previews on May 7 and 8, and opens on Saturday, May 9. It runs at the Eureka Theatre through May 24.

THE GREAT REVUES Replaced With SHADOWS OF POMPEII 4/16-26

42nd Street Moon today announced that the previously scheduled non-subscription program The Great Revues has been replaced with the dramatic new musical Shadows of Pompeii to run April 16 - 26, 2009. The show will be submitted in 2010 to the National Alliance for Musical Theatre's Festival of New Musicals. A saga of Romans living in the seaside village of Pompeii in AD 79 at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, Shadows of Pompeii was written by Bay Area playwright R.C. Staab, with music and lyrics by Keith Herrmann, the Tony-nominated composer of Romance, Romance, Onward Victoria (also featured on Broadway) and Prom Queens Unchained, an off-Broadway hit.

Musical Comedy FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH to Be Presented at Hoover Theater Feb. 12-22

Bay Area residents have eight opportunities to feel the rejuvenating effects of Fountain of Youth, the refreshing new musical comedy by Bay Area librettist RC Staab and Boston composer Jeff Pflaumbaum. Fountain of Youth runs at the historic Hoover Theatre in San Jose in an expanded workshop production.

NaTasha Yvette Williams to Star in Cleveland Play House's 'Mahalia: A Gospel Musical'

Returning to Cleveland after acclaimed performances in The Color Purple on Broadway and Gone with the Wind in London?s West End, NaTasha Yvette Williams takes the stage in the lead role of The Cleveland Play House production of Mahalia: A Gospel Musical. Since 1997, when she performed in The Play House production of (I Could) Stop On a Dime and Get Ten Cents Change, Williams has also played in several Broadway national tours and performed her gospel music all over the world. Kent Gash, Associate Artistic Director of The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, GA, is directing Williams in this musical tribute to the most celebrated gospel singer of all time. Mahalia: A Gospel Musical begins in the Bolton Theatre at The Cleveland Play House on Friday, January 30 and runs through Sunday, February 22, 2009. American Musical Theatre of San Jose Ceases Operations

The American Musical Theatre of San Jose has announced that it is ceasing business operations, effective immediately. The sudden action will shutter the theatre's upcoming productions of Tarzan and 42nd Street. Both have been cancelled although the touring production of Chicago will be performed as scheduled and all tickets will be honored. AMTSJ is currently in communication with the producers of Avenue Q, to achieve the same result as Chicago.
