Opening Nights of Florida State University will be presenting a special performance of Twyla Tharp Dance to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

This Friday, at 7pm, by invitation from artist Helene Nymann, Vangeline participates in an artist discussion about Butoh curated by Helga Christoffersen, Assistant Curator, New Museum.

Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs announced the 2017-2018 season, which will feature technically-challenging classical ballets, innovative contemporary works and the 57th annual production of The Nutcracker.

The success of the awkwardly titled Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage depends primarily on whether or not you were a fan of the motion picture it was closely modeled after. It's easy to say this since the stage version is nearly identical to the film, and in many ways works better as a live production. For the uninitiated or those who steered clear of the film, Dirty Dancing was one of the most successful motion pictures of the 1980s. The low-budget film became a surprise hit, earning $214 million at the box office and becoming the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video. The soundtrack LP, featuring a combination of original songs and vintage hits from the early 1960s, sold 32 million copies and spent four months on top of the best-selling album charts. Looking at the film from today's perspective, 30 years later, one wonders why it was so big. Though many remember the film as a charming coming-of-age story, critics called it 'schmaltzy,' citing the formulaic portrayal of its stock characters spouting trite dialog.

On February 10 and 11 at 7:30 PM, conductor Randall  Craig Fleischer leads guest vocalists Debbie Gravitte, Klea Blackhurst, Ron Raines, Jason Graae, Scott Coulter, and John Boswell in a performance of "Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert". Sleeping Beauty is recognized as one of the supreme achievements of classical ballet. The ballet is based on the classic French fairy tale by Charles Perrault: a beautiful princess is cursed by an evil fairy and doomed to sleep for 100 years - only to be awakened by the kiss of the handsome prince who loves her. Act III includes many classic fairytale scenes including the famous Aurora's Wedding pas de deux, Blue Bird, Puss-n-Boots and a pas de quatre.

The PNC Pops proves 'there's no business like show business' during an evening of Broadway showstoppers with 'Broadway Standing Ovations' on February 17-19 at Heinz Hall.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts will present the World Premiere of American Ballet Theatre's new production of Whipped Cream, choreographed by ABT Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky, with sets and costumes by pop-surrealist Mark Ryden. ABT will give seven performances of the full-length work March 15-19, 2017 in Segerstrom Hall.

As with all classic ballets in order to bring it to the stage you must breathe new life into it, and create a narrative that balances fidelity to the original with the genius of the modern choreographer. Not to mention the unique talents and personalities of each dancer. Kevin McKenzie, ABT's Artistic Director, brings this 19th-century classic into the 21st century with great sensitivity, but also with a sense of fun and celebration.
