Ford's Theatre Society hosts Now He Belongs to the Ages: A Lincoln Commemoration, a moving tribute to President Abraham Lincoln on the 150th anniversary of his assassination -- April 14, 2015, at 9 p.m. The evening includes readings of Lincoln's words and stories, Civil War-era music, excerpts from Lincoln's favorite operas, and features appearances by operatic soprano Alyson Cambridge, legendary singer songwriter Judy Collins, actor David Selby, political satirist Mark Russell, civil rights leader Julian Bond, historians Harold Holzer and James Swanson columnist Eugene Robinson, the Federal City Brass Band, and others.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.)-Washington National Opera (WNO) continues its 2014-2015 season with a new production of one of the most enduring classics in all of opera: Giacomo Puccini's La boheme, November 1-15 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Updating the story to post-World War I Paris, this brand-new production by Jo Davies features original stage direction by Peter Kazaras, both in their WNO debuts. WNO Music Director Philippe Auguin leads the WNO Orchestra in interpreting some of opera's most famous melodies. A special November 14 performance features casting by current singers and alumni of WNO's Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program.
On Site Opera and The Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice present a developmental workshop of the new opera Clarimondefrom composer Frederic Chaslin and librettist P.H. Fisher. The workshop culminates with a public reading held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 1:30pm in the gothic sanctuary of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church (109 Main St, Phoenicia, NY 12464). Clarimonde is the second opera written by composer/librettist team Frederic Chaslin and P.H. Fisher and follows their successful collaboration on Wuthering Heights (2007; selections from the piece have recently performed/recorded in Norway, Italy, Israel and Russia by artists such as Natalie Dessay and Diana Damrau.) Chaslin himself will conduct and Eric Einhorn will direct a cast including Alyson Cambridge (soprano) as Clarimonde, Dominic Armstrong (tenor) as Romualdo, Clayton Mathews (bass-baritone) as The Makerand Louis Otey (baritone) as Bishop Serapion. Immediately following the performance, the audience is invited to participate in an open forum Q & A with the creative team and cast.

OnThursday, June 19 at Lifestyle-Trimco Showroom in Manhattan, the companies will give a special performance of On Site's new production of Rameau's one-act Pygmalion for users of Google Glass. As the performers move about the space during the performance, audience members will be able to read an English translation of Ballot de Sovot's libretto conveniently in their Glass field of vision.
