IMBD news is reporting that Hairspray 2, a sequel to the 2007 Hairspray film starring Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, John Travolta and Michelle Pfieffer, has been canned. Hairspray composer/producer Marc Shaiman was supposed to team with John Waters on the project, which had had a tentative release date of July 2010 in the early stages of it's planning. The story was going to follow Tracy Turnblad (played by Nikki Blonsky in the first installment) and her pals as they navigate the 'next era of music,' the late '60s.

The American Theatre Wing has launched its latest online video series, SpringboardNYC 'Cues from Tony Nominees 2010,' in which the current slate of Tony nominees (there are more than thirty participants in total) answer questions specifically crafted to enlighten, inspire and encourage aspiring theater professionals

In 2008, she was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for A Catered Affair. This is Prince's second visit to the Center, following her debut here in February 2008. She replaces Paulo Szot who is unable to appear due to his extended run in South Pacific at Lincoln Center.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will hold its renowned annual fundraiser gala and cabaret performance on April 10 at the Hilton Short Hills in Short Hills, New Jersey. In addition to kicking off the 2010 Season, The Shakespeare Theatre gala will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Artistic Director Bonnie J. Monte who took over the ailing company, then known as The New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, in 1990.

Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years will be performed at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods on Saturday, April 10 will feature Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie, Alison Kraus, Wynonna, The Oak Ridge Boys, and other artists will be announced at a later date.

SHOWTIME, Warner Bros. SHOWTIME has ordered 12 episodes of the hour-long drama tracing the lives of a very unconventional family which will be executive produced by Wells and the series' original creator and Emmy(R) Award-winner Paul Abbott. The announcement was made today by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. The series will start production at the end of summer 2010.

Variety reports that Broadway star Allison Janney is set to star alongside Hugh Laurie, Catherine Keener, Leighton Meester, Oliver Platt, Alia Shawkat, Adam Brody and Sam Rosen in the upcoming indie dark comedy The Oranges.

Pacific Stages will follow up their debut production of Lobby Hero with the world premiere of Something Happened, by award-winning playwright L. Trey Wilson. Something Happened runs April 1 through May 16 at Pacific Stages in El Segundo and will be directed by L. Trey Wilson. The press opening begins April 8 and there will be an opening reception Saturday, April 10.
