The Core Writer program at the Playwrights' Center gives 25-30 of the most exciting playwrights from across the country the time and tools to develop new work for the stage. The Center is announcing new Core Writers Darren Canady, Erin Courtney, Marisela Treviño Orta, Stacey Rose, Ariel Stess and Ray Yamanouchi. In addition, the Playwrights' Center is pleased to welcome three new student playwrights to its Core Apprentice program for 2018-19: Lily Padilla, Drew Paryzer and Lauren Wimmer.

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) are pleased to announce full casting for Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of Dan Cody's Yacht, a new play written by Anthony Giardina and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes. A Deadbeat Dad's True Story is written and performed by storyteller Murray Meyer who has been a practicing criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles for more than thirty years. Director/playwright Laurel Ollstein, who is married to Meyer, will direct. It's Shameful! A Deadbeat Dad's True Story is sponsored by Bad Boy Bail Bonds of Los Angeles.

Of the 70+ new plays developed at the Playwrights' Center each year, eight are selected to be part of the public season, giving playwrights expanded workshop time with collaborators and the chance to see their new work on its feet in front of two different audiences. These readings are free to attend and take place at the Playwrights' Center, located at 2301 E Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis.

Artists at Play will workshop Victor Maog's tot: The Untold, Yet Spectacular Story of (a filipino) Hulk Hogan, followed by multiple readings in May across Los Angeles through a partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library LA Made series and AAP's Annual Reading series. Rodney To will direct Maog's comedy, which will be free for the public to attend.

The 2017 program is directed by playwright Alice Tuan and composed of all-female playwrights, as part of EWP's 51st Anniversary Season, Radiant, that focuses on featuring stories by and about women.

An artistic director, experienced actors, enthusiastic neophytes and even a violinist...these are the diverse players assembled for Why Dream in Inglewood?, a City of Inglewood Inglewood Growing Artists Performed Projects (IGAPP) initiative awarded to playwright Henry Ong. The IGAPP exposes Inglewood audiences to the practices of contemporary artists and supports the work and growth of artists. Ong's six-hour adaptation of the Chinese classic, 'Dream of the Red Chamber,' debuts Acts I & II on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 am at the Edward Vincent Jr Park Amphitheater, 714 Warren Lane in Inglewood. Performances are free.

Producer Q Theatricals announced today that after critically acclaimed and award winning productions in Seattle, New Jersey and Boston the new musical, ERNEST SHACKLETON LOVES ME, will begin performances on Friday, April 14, 2017 and officially open on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Off-Broadway's Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street). The Playwrights' Center presents two readings of Core Writer Alice Tuan's new play 'California Love' as part of the 2015-16 Ruth Easton New Play Series.
