Volunteer AIDS organization Gay Men's Health Crisis honors THE NORMAL HEART playwright Larry Kamer at its annual spring gala tonight, March 23rd. Kramer will be the first recipient of the organization's special lifetime achievement award, to be called The Larry Kramer Activism Award.

It's that time of year again! Hollywood heavyweights are flocking to the Dolby Theatre this afternoon to attend the 87th Annual Academy Awards. Like the Golden Globes, presented earlier this year, the roster of nominees are primarily made up of film stars (well, duh!) more so than stage actors, but no fear - there are a considerable amount of this year's candidates with strong theatrical credits.

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards, Los Angeles Film Festival and Film Independent at LACMA, handed out top honors to Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Boyhood, Whiplash and Nightcrawler at this afternoon's 30th Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Eddie Redmayne is having a very good year. The 33-year old actor is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for playing physicist Stephen Hawking in THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING. In the film, Redmayne has been singled out for his sensitive portrayal of Hawking that goes from his younger days through the onslaught of the progressive motor neuron disease that binds him to a wheelchair.

The physical CD will be available on Feb. 17. 'Strange Magic' from Touchstone Pictures will be in theaters on Jan. 23, 2015.

The new film WE'LL NEVER HAVE PARIS is written by Simon Helberg and directed by real life husband and wife team Helberg and Jocelyn Towne.

The Public Theater announced today that George Brant's spellbinding, ripped-from-the-headlines play GROUNDED, with Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway, has been added to the 2014-15 downtown season. Directed by Academy Award nominee and two-time Tony Award winner Julie Taymor, GROUNDED marks the return to the Public Theater stage for Hathaway who played Viola in the 2009 Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night. GROUNDED will begin performances in the Anspacher Theater on Tuesday, April 7 and run through Sunday, May 17, with an official press opening on Thursday, April 23.

Big Noise Theatre has announced the cast for the spellbinding, funny and heartwarming play, Enchanted April, written by Matthew Barber, based on the Elizabeth von Armin novel. Performances are weekends tonight, January 16-February 1, 2015, at Prairie Lakes Theatre in Des Plaines, IL.
