In 1942, a teenage Sarah Vaughan won the Apollo Theater's amateur singing competition in a performance that was a launching pad for a career that transformed one of America's original art forms and elevated the craft of jazz vocal music. Seventy years later, Vaughan's legacy continues to resonate and will be celebrated with the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, part of the TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival at NJPAC and at venues around Vaughan's hometown of Newark, N.J.

Jazz Forum Arts (JFA), the top presenter of jazz artists in Westchester County previously announced the winners of its 1st Annual Vocal Jazz Competition. Carly Rose Sonenclar (Wonderland, Les Mis) will be featured with Bianca Muniz as JFA's "Rising Stars" at tonight's August 8 concert at Waterfront Park in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Jazz Forum Arts (JFA), the top presenter of jazz artists in Westchester County announces the winners of its 1st Annual Vocal Jazz Competition. Held on Saturday, May 5th at Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers, JFA's 1st Annual Vocal Jazz Competition auditioned numerous acts for the opportunity to showcase their artistry during JFA's 2012 13th Annual Summer Concert Series.

The Orpheum Theatre has announced the nominees for the 2011 High School Musical Theatre Awards. Now in its second year, this program recognizes achievement in all areas of high school musical theatre in the region. On May 26, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., students and supporters from all 28 participating schools will gather at The Orpheum for the final awards ceremony.
