Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts will conclude its 2015-2016 Composer Portraits series with Michael Gordon featuring Yarn / Wire Jim Findlay, director and designer. All four performances slated for May 11-12, 2016 at Miller Theatre are sold out.
Abrons Arts Center presents Colin Gee and Angie Smalis in Chaplet of Roses and They Go Out in Joy, two works developed from fragments of the past. In the case of Chaplet of Roses, it is a 15th-century tapestry; in They Go Out in Joy, it is a collection of photos of Irish emigrants. The performance is part of Abrons' Travelogues dance series, curated by Laurie Uprichard. This year's ACF spotlights organ music through four highly acclaimed organists and the splendor of the king of instruments-in this case, the one-of-a-kind William J. Gillespie Concert Organ, located in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Built from steel, tin, oak, poplar, maple, lead and carbon fiber, the astounding instrument found in the Symphony's concert hall required three years and 42,000 hours of labor by a team of organ builders at C.B Fisk in Gloucester, Mass., before making its debut with Pacific Symphony in 2008.

The Danish String Quartet has established a reputation for possessing an integrated sound, impeccable intonation and judicious balance. With their technical and interpretive talents matched by an infectious joy for music-making and 'rampaging energy' (The New Yorker), the quartet has been acclaimed as one of the 'best quartets before the public today' (Washington Post). Since making their debut in 2002 at the Copenhagen Festival, this group of musical friends has demonstrated a passion for Scandinavian composers, who they frequently incorporate into adventurous programs, while also proving skilled and profound performers of the classical masters. The ensemble's Meany Hall performance will be their first in Seattle.
