The Met: Live in HD Presents LA CENERENTOLA, 5/10

Joyce DiDonato sings her first Met performances of the title character in Rossini's Cinderella story, La Cenerentola, with bel canto master Juan Diego Flórez as her dashing prince. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leads a cast that also includes Pietro Spagnoli in his Met debut as the servant Dandini, Alessandro Corbelli as Cenerentola's stepfather Don Magnifico, andLuca Pisaroni as Don Ramiro's tutor, Alidoro.

Ridgefield Playhouse to Screen Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE & ROSSINI LA CENERENTOLA this Spring

The spectacular operas that grace the stage of the Met in New York come to The Ridgefield Playhouse through the power of high-definition broadcasts with exciting advantages: Exclusive behind-the scenes interviews with the stars and close-ups that capture the emotions of the cast. On Saturday, April 26, at 12:55 p.m., Music Director James Levine makes his long-awaited return to the Met podium to conduct Mozart's beloved opera, Cosi Fan Tutte, about testing the ties of love. The cast is filled with youthful Met stars: Susanna Phillips, Isabel Leonard, Matthew Polenzani, Rodion Pogossov and Danielle de Niese. Rossini's La Cenerentola will be Live in HD on Saturday, May 10, at 12:55 p.m., starring mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, singing her first Met performance of the Cinderella title role, and the high-flying tenor Juan Diego Florez, as her Prince Charming. A peerless pair of Rossini virtuosos, it's a vocal tour de force for mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Florez. Alessandro Corbelli and Luca Pisaroni complete the cast, with Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi leading the effervescent score.

Javier Camarena to Sing the Role of Prince Ramiro in the First Three Performances of the Metropolitan Opera's Production of LA CENERENTOLA

Javier Camarena will sing the role of Prince Ramiro in the season's three initial performances of Rossini's La Cenerentola on April 21, 25, and 28, replacing Juan Diego Flórez, who is ill. Flórez is scheduled to return for the three final performances of the opera, on May 2, May 6, and the May 10 matinee, which will be transmitted worldwide as part of the Met's Live in HD series.

Lyric Opera's New Production of THE BARBER OF SEVILLE Opens Tomorrow

Lyric Opera of Chicago presents a brand-new production of Gioachino Rossini's crowning comedic glory, The Barber of Seville, conceived by the Tony Award-winning director Rob Ashford in both his Lyric and operatic debut. There will be 10 total performances: February 1, 3, 15, 18, 21, and 25 at 7:30pm and February 6, 9, 12, and 28 at 2:00pm.

The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera's award-winning series of live transmissions to movie theaters, will reach its widest-ever global audience in its eighth season, which begins on October 5 with a new production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Met Music Director James Levine makes his highly-anticipated return to the screen with Verdi's Falstaff on December 14 and the first Live in HD performance of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte on April 26. The Live in HD series, the world's largest provider of alternative content, reaches more than 1,900 theaters in 64 countries, and offers subtitles in nine languages, including Swedish for the first time this season. To accommodate audience demand in Europe, more than 85 cinemas have been added to the HD network in Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

These comprise 67 performances of eight different operas, beginning October 5, 2013 and concluding March 23, 2014: new productions of Parsifal, La traviata, The Barber of Seville, and Rusalka (Lyric premiere); a revival of Otello; and new-to-Chicago stagings of Madama Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, and La clemenza di Tito. Lyric's music director, Sir Andrew Davis, will lead three operas, and guest conductors Marco Armiliato, Bertrand de Billy and Michele Mariotti will make their house debuts. Additionally, Lyric will present a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music in the spring of 2014, continuing the company's American Musical Theater Initiative, and Davis will conduct a special Subscriber Appreciation Concert in March featuring Lyric's creative consultant - the star soprano Renee Fleming - with tenor Jonas Kaufmann.

Summer HD Festival Returns With Free Screenings of the Met’s Live in HD Productions

The Met's popular Summer HD Festival returns for its fourth year on August 25, with ten free outdoor screenings of acclaimed performances from the Met's award-winning Live in HD series. The festival, which more than 40,000 people attended last year, kicks off with a screening of the Met's recent world premiere hit The Enchanted Island, a Baroque pastiche which stars David Daniels, Joyce DiDonato, and Placido Domingo.

Mariusz Kwiecien adds a new role to his Met repertory as Belcore, Adina's posturing fiance, and Alessandro Corbelli reprises his acclaimed interpretation of Dulcamara, the traveling quack whose phony love potion creates real romantic intrigue among the three characters. Donato Renzetti returns to the Met for the first time in more than 20 years to conduct this revival of John Copley's colorful 1991 production.
