Gering & López Gallery Presents MICHAEL BEVILACQUA PLACEBO EFFECT 6/10

GERING & LóPEZ GALLERY is pleased to present Placebo Effect, an exhibition of new paintings on linen by New York based artist Michael Bevilacqua. This will be Bevilacqua's second solo exhibit with the gallery. This exhibition, radically different from his last at the gallery, is much more minimal, starkly showcasing his technical and conceptual skill as a painter.

Betty Cuningham Gallery Presents Rackstraw Downes Drawings, Opens 6/3

Betty Cuningham Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of a survey of drawings by Rackstraw Downes. It will be the artist's third show and first drawings show at the gallery. Included in the exhibition will be approximately twenty works on paper selected from the past thirty years. Downes will be present for an opening reception on June 3.

Kate Aldrich To Sing Title Role Of The Met's CARMEN 4/28, 5/1

Kate Aldrich will sing the title role of Carmen on April 28 and May 1, replacing Angela Gheorghiu who has withdrawn from those performances. Gheorghiu issued the following statement: 'To make so important a debut as Carmen, I want to be as prepared dramatically as I am musically. Therefore, I will postpone my role debut until a later date when I can work intensely with the Richard Eyre production.'

Presentations of the new musical will take place at NYC's New 42nd Street Studios (229 West 42nd Street) on Friday, April 16 at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm and on Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 pm.

Arts Supporters Take to Washington for Arts Advocacy Day

Americans for the Arts, in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus and 86 national co-sponsors, celebrates Arts Advocacy Day 2010 today. More than 500 arts advocates from across the country are meeting with their representatives on Capitol Hill, calling on Congress to support arts-friendly legislation and policies.
