Alan Gilbert to Lead NY Phil in World Premiere of HK Gruber's Piano Concerto, Today

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the World Premiere of HK Gruber's Piano Concerto - a Philharmonic co-commission with the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestras - with pianist Emanuel Ax as soloist; Weill's Little Threepenny Music for Wind Orchestra; and Schubert's Symphony No. 2. The performances will take place Today, January 5, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Berkeley Symphony announced today that Music Director Joana Carneiro has withdrawn from the Berkeley Symphony concert on Thursday, January 26 at 8 pm at Zellerbach Hall. Carneiro is pregnant and is under doctor's advice not to conduct or travel. The concert will be conducted by Christian Reif. The Orchestra will perform the Bay Area premiere of Mason Bates' Cello Concerto with Joshua Roman, to whom the work is dedicated, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4.

The Interlochen Arts Academy and New York Philharmonic are pleased to announce a partnership that will launch in January. Four New York Philharmonic musicians, all Interlochen alumni, will travel to the school's Michigan campus for two intensive weeks of educational activities, and select students will travel to New York to attend a Philharmonic rehearsal and concert, and give a chamber concert at Lincoln Center's Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse (January 28, 2017).

Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic performed a historic concert at the United Nations yesterday, paying tribute to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the conclusion of his ten-year term and welcoming his successor, Antonio Guterres. The concert in the UN General Assembly Hall - the Philharmonic's 13th in collaboration with the UN - was attended by UN delegates, UN staff, and cultural ambassadors, and featured Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, spotlighting Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill.
