Grammy Award-winning trumpet player Chris Botti will perform with the New York Philharmonic, led by Andy Einhorn in his Philharmonic debut, Monday, April 11, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.

On Today, February 12, 2016 Lincoln Center will host its first ever Late Nights at the Atrium, which is one of four series that has been newly-added to the programming lineup of free events at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center.

Semyon Bychkov will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Mahler's Symphony No. 6, tonight, February 11, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 12 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 13 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the New York Premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Karawane - a New York Philharmonic co-commission with Zurich's Tonhalle Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony, and Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra - featuring the New York Choral Artists, directed by Joseph Flummerfelt; Sibelius's Violin Concerto, with Leonidas Kavakos as soloist; and Shostakovich's Suite from The Age of Gold, Thursday, March 17, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 18 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m.

The New York Philharmonic's 2016-17 season celebrates two major milestones: the Orchestra's 175th anniversary and Alan Gilbert's valedictory season as Music Director. The season will honor the Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert's shared hometown of New York City, and celebrate the myriad initiatives Alan Gilbert has introduced throughout his tenure that have become part of the fabric of today's New York Philharmonic. 

New York Philharmonic Chairman Oscar S. Schafer and President Matthew VanBesien today announced that conductor Jaap van Zweden will become the Orchestra's next Music Director, beginning in 2018-19, the Orchestra's 177th season. Mr. van Zweden will serve as Music Director Designate in the 2017-18 season.

The New York Philharmonic will present Messiaen Week, March 7-13, 2016, honoring the legacy of French composer and organist Olivier Messiaen (1908-92) through performances of his works, from the symphonic to solo works, as well as music by those whom he influenced.

Christoph Eschenbach returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct a program of works by Eastern European composers with folk influences: Bartok's Violin Concerto No. 2, featuring violinist Baiba Skride in her Philharmonic debut and first New York City orchestral appearance, and Dvorak's Carnival Overture and Symphony No. 8, Thursday, February 25, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, February 27 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Four series have been newly-added to the programming lineup of free events at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center: The History of the World in 100 Performances with Adam Gopnik, and three series curated and produced by Award-winning theater directors Lonny Price and Matt Cowart: LC Dialogues, LC Originals, and Late Nights at the Atrium.

The Metropolitan Museum recently announced new performances and talks as part of the spring 2016 season. Leading with live arts by visionary artists, the 2015-16 season has presented unexpected and adventurous offerings in new spaces, and this spring, that line of singular programming will continue with newly added events.

The legendary Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra returns to Carnegie Hall this February for three consecutive concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage conducted by Valery Gergiev. During each of the three concerts, the orchestra highlights the music of Richard Wagner, beginning with the Overture to Der fliegende Hollander on the first program on Friday, February 26 at 8:00 p.m., which is heard alongside Debussy's La mer and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (orch. Ravel).

In the second year of a four-year partnership between Music Academy of the West and the New York Philharmonic, ten Academy musicians will travel to New York in January 2016 to participate in the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program (Jan 2-12), developing their career skills through what President and CEO of the Music Academy of the West Scott Reed called "an extraordinary opportunity to gain valuable experience alongside the musicians of one of the world's greatest orchestras."

Tony Award-winning star of theater, film, and television Nathan Lane joins this year's edition of the New York Philharmonic's annual New Year's Eve celebration, LA VIE PARISIENNE, narrating Saint-Saens's CARNIVAL OF ANIMALS.

Amazon's hit television show, MOZART IN THE JUNGLE kicks off its second season on December 30, 2015. The show follows a fictional (albeit, based in reality) orchestra in New York led by the exciting and controversial Rodrigo de Souza (Gael Garcia Bernal) loosely based on LA Philharmonic conductor, Gustavo Dudamel. The show is based on Blair Tindall's novel of the same name of her experiences with professional classical music in New York and San Francisco. I had the fortune of speaking with Ms. Tindall about her transition from musician to author to TV consultant.

The seventh season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic's new-music series, continues with 'Salonen's Floof and Other Delights,' curated and hosted by The Marie-Jose?e Kravis Composer-in-Residence Esa-Pekka Salonen, featuring music written by him and composers who influenced him. The program features Lutos?awski's String Quartet, Donatoni's Hot, Castiglioni's Dulce refrigerium, and Esa-Pekka Salonen's Floof (Songs of a Homeostatic Homer). The concert takes place Monday, February 1, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at National Sawdust, which is co-presenting the program.

Pianist Emanuel Ax joins the LA Phil in three performances led by conductor Daniel Harding at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Friday and Saturday, January 8 and 9, at 8 pm, and Sunday, January 10, at 2 pm. The concerts mark Ax's 40th anniversary performing with the LA Phil, making him one of the longest-term collaborators with the orchestra.
