LA Times Gets First Look at Old Globe's Renovated Theatre

The Los Angeles Times has gotten the first look at the renovated Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre at the Old Globe. Originally a 224-seat, the seats were demolished and rebuilt as a 250-seat theatre and, although much of the theatre will look similar to an audience member, the Old Globe has done much to enhance the theatre-going experience.

UK's National Theatre's NATION Gets International Broadcast on 230 Screens, 1/30

Terry Prachett's NATION, filmed live at the National Theatre in London, will be broadcast by satellite to cinemas worldwide on January 30th. NATION is the third play in the pilot season of NT Live, the National's ground-breaking initiative which launched in June with the hugely successful broadcast of Phedre with Helen Mirren, which was seen by 50,000 people in 19 countries around the globe.

Donmar's STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE Wins South Bank Show Award; First Winners Announced

It was announced today that the Donmar Warehouse production of A Streetcar Named Desire won the Theatre Award at the final South Bank Show Awards. The production ran from August to October 2009 with a cast including Jack Ashton, Elliot Cowan, Charles Daish, Judy Hepburn, Barnaby Kay, Gary Milner, Daniela Nardini, Luke Rutherford, Rachel Weisz, and Ruth Wilson.

Judy Kaye To Star In LOST IN YONKERS At The Old Globe

Old Globe Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers, the inaugural production of the Globe's Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre.

Judy Kaye To Perform Songs From The American Songbook At Hattox Hall

Tony Award winner Judy Kaye will sing the songs of Harold Arlen and other giants of the American songbook in a special cabaret performance in the Globe's new Hattox Hall on Monday, February 8 at 8:00 p.m. David Green directs and Dennis Buck music directs the internationally renowned concert and opera star.

THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN, the new comedy by award-winning writers Brian Mitchell and Joseph Nixon, will open at the Corn Exchange Newbury on Thursday 4th February prior to a 4 month tour, including London, in the UK until Sunday 16th May 2010.

South Bank Show Awards Honors Carey Mulligan, Lucy Prebbles et al. with Noms.

The nominees for the final South Bank Show Awards for 2010 have been announced, and include An Education and The Seagull stage star Carey Mulligan, and Enron playwright Lucy Prebble. Enron will be making its Broadway premiere this spring. Both are up for The Times Breakthrough Award, which will be presented by Sir Ian McKellen.

LOVE NEVER DIES Reported to Already Have Near $13 Million Advance

The UK Daily Mail is reporting that LOVE NEVER DIES, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera has already racked up a very impressive 8 million pound (nearly 13 million dollar) advance for the UK premiere production, a full three months ahead of the first performance.

RIALTO CHATTER: HABIT OF ART Headed for Broadway in 2011?

The UK Daily Mail is reporting that Alan Bennett's The Habit of Art is hoping to move to Broadway in the Spring of 2011. The production began playing at the National Theatre's Lyttleton Theater in November 5, 2009 and will be broadcast in April 2010 live to cinema screens worldwide. It's expected that the leads, Richard Griffiths, Alex Jennings and Frances de la Tour would accompany the production as well.

NY Times Reveals London's Standout Newcomers of 2009

The New York Times has named its standout newcomers to the London theatre scene in 2009. London is well-known for its excellent revivals that often make their way to Broadway. This year, however, several notable new productions made a splash on the London theatre circuit. Variety is reporting that Tony-nominated actress Kathleen Chalfant has joined the MCC's upcoming production of 'Family Week' by Beth Henley, which will run frmo Apr 7-May 23, 2010 and will be directed by Jonathan Demme.

As previously reported, Michael Feinstein and Dame Edna have decided to collaborate on their upcoming show efforts and will jointly star in All About Me. The New York Times has reported today that All About Me shall run at the Golden Theater. Previews will begin on February 19 with an official opening night of March 18.
