This romantic comedy, one of the most popular of the century, follows a love affair between two people, Doris and George, married to others, who rendezvous once a year. Twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly played out by the lovers, who discuss the births, deaths, marital problems, and social changes affecting their lives, and develop an emotional intimacy deeper than what one would expect to find between two people meeting for a clandestine relationship just once a year. The play was adapted into a 1978 movie starring Ellen Burstyn and Alan Alda. Caution: Contains mild profanity and adult themes.

Willie und Al waren einmal die „Sonny Boys", unschlagbare Komodianten, die landauf landab fur ihre Sketche gefeiert wurden.
Doch das Ringen nach immer neuen Gags war ein standiger Nervenkrieg - weshalb Al nach 43 Jahren abrupt einen Schlussstrich zog. Mit den Solokarrieren ist es nichts geworden. Niemand interessiert sich mehr fur die einstigen Stars. Bis eines Tages Willie's Neffe Ben den beiden ein Angebot macht, das sie schon wegen der Gage nicht ablehnen konnen. Doch bereits beim ersten Zusammentreffen bricht die alte Hassliebe zwischen den beiden wieder auf.
