Random Acts Announces New #SafeSpace Series With Host Sadieh Rifai

Random Acts, the micro-budget theatre company behind the smash-hit Strangest Things! The Musical will premiere a new monthly variety series spotlighting underrepresented voices and raising funds for deserving causes. Titled '#SafeSpace,' the series will debut on Monday, March 19th at 8pm with a show hosted by comedian and actor Sadieh Rifai (Amazon's Patriot.) All proceeds from the 3/19 event will be donated to Planned Parenthood.

Raven Theatre Announces World Premiere of THE GENTLEMAN CALLER

Raven Theatre is pleased to continue its 35th anniversary season with the world premiere of Philip Dawkins' provocative drama THE GENTLEMAN CALLER, directed by Artistic Director Cody Estle, playing March 28 - May 13, 2018 in Raven's intimate 55-seat West Stage, 6157 N. Steppenwolf for Young Adults (SYA) is proud to produce the world premiere of The Burn, written by acclaimed Chicago playwright Philip Dawkins and directed by Devon de Mayo. Featuring a cast of professional actors, The Burn addresses the bullying and social media issues that many teens experience in school.  Public performances for The Burn are Saturday, February 17 at 3pm and 7:30pm; Friday, February 23 at 7:30pm; Saturday, February 24 at 3pm and 7:30pm; Friday, March 2 at 7:30pm; Saturday, March 3 at 3pm and 7:30pm; and Saturday, March 10 at 3pm in the Upstairs Theatre.  Weekday performances are reserved for school groups only. Tickets to public performances ($20; $15 with student I.D.) are available through Audience Services (1650 N Halsted St), 312-335-1650 and steppenwolf.org.

InterAct Theatre Company Presents NIGHTBIRD By R. Eric Thomas

The National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces the 2017-18 Annual Commission is awarded to Core Member InterAct Theatre Company (Philadelphia, PA) and playwright R. Eric Thomas for the new play Nightbird. The play will center on a Mid-Atlantic city reckoning with its relationship to slavery.

Porchlight Music Theatre announced that Lorenzo Rush Jr has replaced James Earl Jones II in Porchlight Revisits They're Playing Our Song, music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager and book by Neil Simon, with direction and choreography by Christopher Carter and musical direction by Andra Velis Simon. Porchlight Revisits They're Playing our Song is presented for three-nights-only Tuesday, March 6 through Thursday, March 8 at 7:15 p.m. and is performed on the set of Porchlight's Merrily We Roll Along (previews begin January 26) at Porchlight's new home, The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street. Tickets for They're Playing Our Song are $35. All tickets include access to the popular pre-performance event, Behind the Show Backstory, a multimedia presentation, created and hosted by Porchlight Music Theatre Artistic Director Michael Weber that discusses the evening's production including the show's creative history, juicy backstage gossip and the state of the art on Broadway that season.
