Pacific Symphony Orchestra Marks 25th Anniversary with Violinist Joshua Bell & More Tonight

Orange County, Calif.—Aug. 28, 2014—Pacific Symphony launches Music Director Carl St.Clair's landmark 25th-anniversary “season of giants” with classical music superstar, violinist Joshua Bell, plus two orchestral showpieces, a West Coast premiere and festivities fit for the grand occasion. Bell returns for his fifth performance with the Symphony (he last performed with the Symphony in May 2010) to celebrate the maestro and captivate audiences with the exciting, breakneck theme and stunning Romanticism of Alexander Glazunov's Violin Concerto. Interview Magazine may have summed up the remarkable violinist's playing best by saying, Bell “does nothing less than tell human beings why they bother to live.” The violinist's artistry is exemplified in his new music directorship of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, his release of 40 CDs since the age of 18, multiple television appearances and countless accolades.

Canton Symphony Orchestra to Improve Experience for those with Hearing Loss

Those with hearing loss who may have avoided attending Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) events in the past now have good reason to reconsider. Through renovations to Umstattd Performing Arts Hall and the construction of the Zimmermann Symphony Center, hearing loops have been installed to allow those with hearing assistive devices to better enjoy the programs. In addition, an American Sign Language interpreter will be on hand for performances that feature choral works.

Leonard Slatkin To Conduct NY Premiere of Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Robert Langevin

Leonard Slatkin will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct the New York Premiere of The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Flute Concerto, with Principal Flute Robert Langevin as soloist; Copland's El Salon Mexico; Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit (orchestrated by Marius Constant), marking the Philharmonic's first time performing the complete work; and Ravel's Bolero, Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. (performed without intermission); and Saturday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m.

The National Alliance For Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced additional concerts and events for the 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals. On October 22nd the Festival kicks off with The 46th Minute, a concert featuring cut songs and new material from all eight 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals selections, followed by The Songwriters Showcase on October 23rd and The Songwriters Sessions on October 23rd and 24th, all at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

The Canton Symphony Orchestra's MasterWorks Series Opens With AMERICAN MOSAIC, 10/5

October 5, 2014 is opening night for the Canton Symphony Orchestra's (CSO) 2014-2015 MasterWorks Series. The concert, titled “American Mosaic”, features music by American composers John Corigliano, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson and Dudley Buck. The night also marks the first time audience members will be able to access Umstattd Performing Arts Hall, where the performance will be held, through the Zimmermann Symphony Center entrance. The pre-concert lecture, free to all ticket concert ticket holders, begins at 6:30pm and the concert begins at 7:30pm.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) today announced the participants of the third cycle of the BAM Professional Development Program (BAM PDP), led by BAM and the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland. The companies for this session represent mixed disciplines ranging from dance to theater to opera. Chosen by a BAM-convened panel, the organizations taking part in this session are Encompass New Opera Theatre, Satellite Collective, Summation Dance, and Treehouse Shakers. As with the previous sessions, the DeVos Institute extended invitations to a group of organizations to apply for the training portion of the BAM PDP-expanding the program's reach beyond Brooklyn-based companies. These additional organizations taking part in the program areBalletNext, Beth Morrison Projects, S? Percussion, and Zvi Dance.
