Matthew A Robinson

Birth Place: Carlisle, PA

BIO

Baritone Matthew A. Robinson is quickly gaining attention as one of the most talented singers in the Greater Central Pennsylvania region. With his rich voice, musicality and commanding presence, he has become one of the most sought after vocalists in the region in opera, operetta, oratorio, musical theater and recitalist. Mr. Robinson has performed throughout the region performing such roles as Javert (Les Miserables), King Charlemagne (Pippin), Roger (Grease), El Gallo (Fantasticks) and Mr. Boddy (Clue: The Musical).

Under the baton of Stuart Malina, Mr. Robinson has performed various major works with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, and Poulenc’s Gloria. Matthew is scheduled to sing Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the orchestra in 2020. Robinson is also scheduled to sing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with Allegro Orchestra Lancaster under the baton of Dr. Brian Norcross of Franklin & Marshall College.

While with the Carlisle Theatre Company in Carlisle, Pa., Mr. Robinson has performed as Bill Sikes (Oliver!), Roger (Grease), and as the high priest Caiaphas (Jesus Christ Superstar) where Matthew was described as making “…anyone who loves serious bass singing cheer. He’s got the chops, as well as the nuances to make an audience imagine a speaker whose pronouncements indeed carry gravitas.” Mr. Robinson is scheduled to reprise the role of Bill Sikes with Oyster Mill Playhouse in Camp Hill, Pa. in November 2019.

During his time at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., Mr. Robinson was active in the opera program performing such roles as Simone (Gianni Schicchi) and The Judge (Trial by Jury). Matthew was a frequent participant and winner of the Allegheny Mountain Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition competing with local undergraduate students throughout the region. Recently, Mr. Robinson was brought back to sing as soloist in their performances of Haydn’s Creation and Haydn’s Paukenmesse.

With his versatility, Matthew has been able to take on a variety of operatic roles. With Center Stage Opera in Camp Hill, Pa., he has sung the roles of Alcindoro (La Boheme) and El Bonzo (Madama Butterfly). In 2020, Mr. Robinson is scheduled to sing Uberto (La Serva Padrona) and Don Annabile (Il Campanello) with Capitol Opera – Harrisburg. In Spring 2019, Matthew performed as bass soloist for the Sylvan Chorale’s performance of Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C.

Matthew continues to expand his repertoire, versatility, and the practice of vocal performance. Mr. Robinson consistently contributes to the enhancement of worship at local churches weekly in the Greater Central Pennsylvania region.

Matthew Robinson attended Boiling Springs High School in Boiling Springs, Pa., and Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., extensively studying vocal performance with Dr. Damian Savarino.
