Derek was born and raised in the state of New Jersey. He lived in New Jersey for 13 years of his life! Derek grew up in a small town called Bayville, New Jersey. That is where acting began for Derek. He was in a few musicals in elementary school, but middle school is where it became more important to his life. At his middle school in New Jersey, he was in the musical “Once on This Island Jr.”(2014) From there, him and his family moved out to Middle Tennessee his 8th grade year (2015). In his new middle school in Mount Juliet, he landed the role of a basketball player in “High School Musical Jr.” He has been a part of few other productions in High School such as “Phantom of the Opera,” (2017) and two small plays called “The Legend of the Golden Fiddle” and “Everybody’s Christmas.” That wasn’t the end for Derek.

In the summer of 2017, Derek joined a community theatre in Lebanon, Tennessee, Audience of One Productions. He auditioned for “Peter Pan Jr.” hoping for the role of John Darling. His directors, Lena Boyd and Angie Dee, believed in him and he landed the role of John Darling. He continued to be in this community theatre all year long. In December, he was cast into Hooverville/ NYC ensemble for “Annie: The Broadway Musical.”(2017) Up next for Derek is the musical “Singing in The Rain” in March of 2018!

He had the honor to train with some of Broadway’s best from “The Broadway Collective” based out of NYC. On their National Tour, they stopped in Nashville. He worked on dance with Chaz Wolcott (Jazz) and Mary Michael Patterson (Tap). Derek learned acting and vocal skills with Jamison Scott. This was the best experience for Derek. Later on he was in what was called “Musical Theatre Show Stoppers” with Audience of One Productions. He had the chance to work on some more dancing skills with Cameron Gilliam for “Newsies” choreography and Katharine Boettcher on a tap number for the song “A Musical” from “Something Rotten.”

Derek is currently beginning rehearsals for his next production “Singing in The Rain.” He looks forward to more opportunities and many more theatre productions throughout his life. Derek hopes to either one day make it to Broadway or to act in movies and television.
