Halfway through the bedroom scene (Act III, Scene I) I thought to myself, 'They're playing the music too quickly!' I was wrong. The tempo was fine; it simply felt faster than normal because the dancing was so wonderful. It's to be expected. Alessandra Ferri was guest starring in American Ballet Theatre's production of Kenneth MacMillan's 'Romeo and Juliet' nine years after she'd retired from the company in the same role.

The Chicago Philharmonic Society announced today that Paul R. Judy, Board Chairman since January, 2012, has become Chairman Emeritus, and is being succeeded by Thomas J. Manning. Additionally, Bobby Everson, a principal timpanist with the orchestra and a board director, was named Vice Chairman.

The critically acclaimed Victorian Horror Troupe PHANTASMAGORIA, in collaboration with AWP's Barefoot Playhouse, will premiere its new touring show, PHANTASMAGORIA "Wicked Little Tales" with a limited engagement weekend of 4 performances at AWP's Barefoot Playhouse, July 31, August 1 and 2. Performances are Friday, Saturday evenings at 7:30pm / Saturday, Sunday matinees at 2:00pm. League of American Orchestras Chair Lowell J. Noteboom has announced the appointment of Burton Alter, Angelo Fatta, Jim Hasler, John Hayes, James Mabie, and Robert Peiser to the League's Board of Directors. The six new board members, who will each serve three-year terms, were elected by the League board during its annual meeting in June.

Jitney is the eighth play in August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle and recently completed a critically acclaimed run at SCR (South Coast Rep) in Orange County. It has now transferred to the Pasadena Playhouse through July and certainly stands tall as one of Wilson's earliest and best kitchen sink dramas. The production has sensational acting and direction by Ron OJ Parson and balances enough humor with the heartache of real life to make it thoroughly absorbing and entertaining fare.
