BWW Review: UK UNDERDOG Writer/Performer Steve Spiro Donates all Solo Show Proceeds to START Rescue and Anti-Bullying Groups

In UK UNDERDOG, Steve Spiro tells his autobiographical story as a young Jewish boy in London who transforms himself, through sheer force of will (and plenty of chutzpah) from a bullied underdog to martial artist, boxer, community leader and animal rights activist. Along the way, he portrays not only himself from childhood to current time, but also every other person he knows including his always-in-the-kitchen mother, his taxi driver father, critical yet loving Nana who spent her days obsessed with American TV shows, his best friend Erch, town bully John Turner, the coach who helped build his confidence, and Roger, the bi-polar Drama teacher who changed the focus of his life into being a Thespian by day and a fighter at night.

BWW Review: DIRT - Too Calculated to Get Down and Dirty

The Rogue Machine Theatre's West Coast premiere of Bryony Lavery's DIRT, a precautionary dissertation of the lethal hazards of commonplace chemicals humans come in contact with, benefits from its strong talented cast. Bravo to all the actors for their commitment to their respective roles, some requiring the tackling of reiterating endless laundry lists of chemical terminology.

'Pro99' Actors' Equity Members Send Open Letter to AEA President

Members of the 'Pro99' movement of Actors' Equity Association have issued an open letter to AEA's newly elected president, Kate Shindle, in response to her victory and to her inaugural address as president of the national union for actors and stage managers. The open letter is signed by over 400 Equity members (listed below), including such notable names as Ed Asner, Francis Fisher, Sally Kirkland and Alfred Molina. The 'Pro99' movement formed in late 2014 in opposition to AEA's rollout of a new plan that will effectively force 'intimate theaters' in Los Angeles to pay Equity actors minimum wage, go 'non-union' or even close - despite an overwhelming vote against the plan by 66% of the Los Angeles membership on an advisory referendum. 'Pro99' members around the nation, who take their name from the current AEA '99 Seat Plan' that allows members to volunteer in smaller venues, oppose AEA's new promulgated plan. They are requesting that Equity leadership put a moratorium on the plan until local members' voices can be heard, and that the union work with its members to develop an alternative plan that will more realistically address the needs of the Los Angeles theater community.

Rapp's BINGO WITH THE INDIANS Comes To Rogue Machine 5/15-6/7

In a shabby New England motel, 3 members of a NY theatre group have arrived with a scheme. As the evening darkens and unravels...so do their ambitions and secrets. This dark comedy--from Pulitzer-nominee Adam Rapp (Red Light Winter, Nocturne) is a visceral, provocative, oddball piece about a group of artists desperately trying to force a place for themselves, and how far they will go to get what they want.

Crown City Theater Co Presents Bill Barker's BEST WISHES

Crown City Theatre Company is proud to announce the opening of 'Best Wishes,' a play by Bill Barker being done for the first time in Los Angeles since it's amazing run in 1984. Bill Barker's heartfelt, comedic and personal play about a large family get-together in the rural town of Liberal, Kansas touches every audience member in a different way. There are so many strong characters that remind us of ourselves (or our siblings) that one can't help, but laugh along or get involved in their lives. This is the story of one of the largest families in Kansas coming together to pay their last respects to their mother. They are also paying their respects to the house they all grew up in and for some of them the small town that they know they will never visit again.
