This is Not a Theatre Company to Present A SERIOUS BANQUET, 6/2-19

By:

Cubism comes to life at a dinner party that is also a theatre performance this June with This is Not a Theatre Company's A Serious Banquet, helmed by the dynamic female duo of director Erin Mee and playwright Jessie Bear.

Inspired by the birthday party Picasso threw for painter Henri Rousseau at his studio in Le Bateau-Lavoir in Bohemian Paris in 1908 as described in The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, audience members will have an opportunity to wine and dine with actors portraying Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, Max Jacob, Andre Salmon, Guillaume Apollinaire, Fernande Olivier, Marie Laurencin, Georges Braque, and many more.

Neither a biography of Picasso nor an art history lesson, this multi-sensory devised theatre experience invites audience members to step into a cubist world and explore the world from a Cubist perspective - what is it like to experience a painting as movement, sound, smell, or taste? Dance a painting, hear a sculpture, and eat a cubist brownie, courtesy of The Treats Truck. Watch Picasso's 1907 painting, Les Demoiselles D'Avignon, come to life. Performed on week day evenings the first three weeks of June at both Judson Church and the 3rd floor of the New York Theatre Workshop in the heart of the East Village, theatre never tasted, smelled, felt, looked, or sounded so good.

Show Business Weekly said of Mee and Bear's last collaboration, Pool Play, "The entirety of the play is well executed, featuring a strong ensemble...an uplifting theatrical experience that leaves the audience joyous and refreshed." A Serious Banquet features Jeanine T. Abraham, Stephen Wagener Bennett, Shawn Chua, Ashley Wren Collins, Vincent William Cooper, Ryan Feyk, Caitlin Goldie, Erika Marit Iverson, Miranda Kahn, Lily Narbonne, Clara Pagone, Jillian Puhalla, Kate Reilly, Sandra Maren Schneider, and Ali Kennedy Scott.

Tickets range in price from $50 - $60 (ticket prices include dinner, dessert, and drinks). Running time is 90 minutes.
