Theatre for audiences of one, popular in Europe, is beginning to come to the United States, the New York Times reports.  Productions of THE BLIND TRIP, APPOINTMENT, and HOTEL SAVOY will premiere in New York City in the next few months.

Christine Jones, creator of the Times Square production THEATRE FOR ONE, told the Times of the genre, "What people said to me is that, aside from the song or poetry, it's just the experience of sitting across from someone in a private space.  We don't slow down very often and take the time to look into someone's eyes. That's the gift of this."

THE BLIND TRIP, which will open at Long Island City's LaGuardia Performing Arts Center on July 29, was previously presented at the One-on-One festival in London.  In THE BLIND TRIP, a blindfolded audience member moves through the play, deciding when to end the experience by removing the blindfold, the Times reports.

In APPOINTMENT, which will run at New York University from September 16 to September 19, a single audience sits in a office and watches the actors.  In HOTEL SAVOY, which will run at the Goethe-Institut Building (1014 Fifth Avenue) from September 30 to October 24, the audience members moves through the building and talks with the actors, who play hotel staff.  HOTEL SAVOY will be co-presented by Performance Space 122 and the Goethe-Institut center.
