The Amoralists To Present Charly Evon Simpson's STAINED

The Amoralists (James Kautz, Artistic Director; Lico Whitfield, Producing Director) proudly present STAINED, written by Amoralists 2018/2019 'WRIGHT CLUB author Charly Evon Simpson, and directed by Kate Moore Heaney. STAINED is PLAY 2 of RICOCHET: An Amoralists Anthology about Surviving an American Epidemic.

STAINED runs from October 4 - 7, 2018 in a limited engagement at New Ohio Theatre, located at 154 Christopher Street between Greenwich and Washington Streets in New York City. Grieving the death of her daughter in a mass shooting that she herself survived, Greta struggles with feelings of loss and powerlessness. She finds solace in a surprising source who presents her with a shocking way to take back her power and channel her pain.

The cast includes Garrett Hendricks (FX's "The Americans," Showtime's "Nurse Jackie"), Marlowe Holden (Mabou Mines, Ma-Yi Theater), Naomi Lorrain (Restoration Comedy at The Flea, Netflix's "Orange is the New Black"), Shaun Patrick Tubbs (Terminus at NYTW, Chosen at HERE) and Eric Whitten (Amazon's "The Tick," TV Land's "The Jim Gaffigan Show").

RICOCHET: An Amoralists Anthology about Surviving an American Epidemic, features four boundary-pushing original, intersecting plays that follow a community as it copes with the aftermath of a mass shooting. Written by The Amoralists 2018/2019 'WRIGHT CLUB playwrights, Gabriel Jason Dean, Charly Evon Simpson, and James Anthony Tyler, the season also features a series of original graphic novels created by Danica Novgorodoff.

Here's how 'WRIGHT CLUB works: One unifying event. Three distinct perspectives. No right answers. Over the course of the 2018/2019 season each 'WRIGHT CLUB author, working alongside The Amoralists ensemble of artists, will craft a play in their unique style that explores one side of the season's unifying incident and pushes the narrative forward. The fourth play, collaboratively written by all three club authors, caps off the year with the final installment of the story, presented in a full production in April - May 2019.

The Amoralists are a diverse collective of uncompromising artists. Founded in 2006, they produce original work that confronts the American condition in all its complexity. Their stories are emotionally charged and character driven, a place where politics and perspectives collide and no side emerges unscathed. Explosive, vital, raucous and raw, they do theatre, no moral judgement.

Charly Evon Simpson's plays include Jump, Behind the Sheet, Scratching the Surface, form of a girl unknown, and more. Her work has been seen and/or developed with Ensemble Studio Theatre, Ars Nova, The Tank, Chautauqua Theater Company, Salt Lake Acting Company, PAGE 73's Summer Residency, NNPN at its Kennedy Center MFA Playwright's Workshop and National Showcase of New Plays, and others. She's currently a member of WP Theater's 2018-2020 Lab, The Amoralists' 18/19 'Wright Club and she's The Pack's current playwright-in-residence. Kate Moore Heaney (Director) is a director, producer, and dramaturg committed to promoting empathy and investigating social, political, and human rights issues through theatre. In addition to serving as Co-Program Director of the Amoralists' 'Wright Club, Kate is currently a Resident Director at The Flea Theater and Associate Artistic Producer at Noor Theatre. She has directed and developed new work with The Civilians' R&D Group ('17-'18 member), The Flea, Noor Theatre, The Shakespeare Society ('15-'17 Ambassador ), Less Than Rent, Theatre 4the People, the PIT, Fundamental Theatre Project, The Director's Gathering Jam, Jersey City Theatre Center, Loading Dock, Midtown International Theatre Festival, The Secret Theatre, The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals, TinyRhino, Rising Sun Performance Company, Playwrights at the Grand, and Yes Noise on the High Line. She has worked, trained, and/or assistant directed at McCarter Theatre (2014-15 Directing/Producing Assistant), Second Stage, Clubbed Thumb, CRY HAVOC, Yale Institute for Music Theatre, the Théâtre du Châtelet, and the 24 Hour Plays on Broadway.
