Sam Shepard's COWBOY MOUTH Helps Restore the Paul Robeson Theater, 4/25-4/27
The historical Paul Robeson Theater in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn is opening its doors again for a limited benefit production of Cowboy Mouth by Sam Shepard and Patti Smith. Directed by Mark Gallagher and featuring Lisa Jill Anderson, Cory Michael Kosel and Marco de Ornello, this three-day-only benefit production hosted by Stable Cable Lab Co. will raise money to restore the historical Paul Robeson Theater.
Cowboy Mouth will begin its limited run on Thursday, April 25 and close on Saturday, April 27 (with a special closing performance at midnight). This production of Cowboy Mouth starts off as a party in the theater's basement and transforms into a visceral, immersive performance equipped with drinks and lives music. In Cowboy Mouth, two misfits, Slim and Cavale, are holed up in what seems to be a basement apartment. Cavale has kidnapped Slim from his wife and child with big plans to turn him into a Rock Star.
The Paul Robeson Theater was founded by Dr. Josephine English in 1980 when she purchased a deserted church next door to the Adelphi Medical Center to convert into a theater for the community. Since then the theater has produced works born of the creativity of community residents and visitors. It is the mission of Brooklyn's historical Paul Robeson Theater to enrich and strengthen the community through art, culture and education. The theater provides an accessible and open forum for creative expression and showcases a versatile array of innovative work that reflects the legacy of Paul Robeson himself.
Performance schedule: April 25th & April 26th-party starts at 8pm and performance begins at 9pm; April 27th- party starts at 11pm and performance begins at midnight.
Tickets are $12 and are cash only at the door. Make a reservation by emailing CowboyMouthRSVP@gmail.com.
