REFERENCES TO SALVADOR DALI MAKE ME HOT Heats Up The Stage At The New School For Drama, 7/10-19

By:

ABroad Stage Company (ABSCo) is gearing up for its debut performance of Jose Rivera’s new version of his best-known play, “References To Salvador Dali Make Me Hot,” which originally premiered at The Public Theater in 2000. Directed by Pippin Parker, the play will open on Friday, July 10, at the New School for Drama Theater at 151 Bank Street, in the West Village.

Rivera has received many awards for playwriting, including Obies for “Salvador Dali,” and “Marisol,” and was an Academy Award nominee for “Motorcycle Diaries.”  He was inspired by ABSCo to thoroughly revise his best-known work. Rivera has been working closely with the cast on what he calls the “new world premier” for ABSCo’s first production and, with the director and cast, will participate in talk–backs with the audience on July 13 and another date to be announced.

ABroad Stage Company is a grassroots organization that has drawn together fourteen multi-lingual directors, actors, designers, writers and choreographers. Founding company member and New School for Drama alumna, Sara Gozalo, spear-headed the production, which includes several other New School Drama alumni; Adriana Munera-Checho, Mike Keller, Martin Federico Trigo. Raul Castillo, from LABrynth Theater Company, will play the lead part of Benito to Sara Gozalo’s Gabriela. New School for Drama acting faculty member Paul Ryan Rudd joins the cast as The Moon.

Under the direction of Pippin Parker, the company is promising a ground-breaking rendition of Rivera’s play through its international and collaborative approach to creativity. Parker directed last year’s award-winning production of George Packer’s “Betrayed” at Culture Project. He is a co-founder of the Naked Angels Theater Company and Chair of the playwriting department at The New School for Drama.
