Musicals Tonight! Presents STRIKE UP THE BAND, 3/12-3/24
It's 1927, George S. Kaufman and George & Ira Gershwin decide to write a musical based upon a ridiculous premise - to protect the price of a commodity, the United States invades a foreign country! The commodity is cheese. The country is Switzerland. William Thomas Evans is the company owner whose daughter, Natalie Newman, is courted by the company manager, Jacob Hoffman, but loves the local newspaper reporter, Josh Canfield. A society matron, Joan Barber, has her romantic sights set on Mr. Fletcher and her daughter, Maggie Lakis, is being wooed by the company foreman, Michael Padgett. A confidential advisor to The President, John Hemphill and a bumbling spy, M.X. Soto are part of the "cheesy plot", as are Michael Borges, Lindsay Braverman, Robert Farruggia, Sam Harvey, Sara Lerch, Rachel MacIsaac, and Sean Patrick Murtagh.
