Game Play Festival Runs Through July 25

By:

The Game Play Festival, which combines theater and video games, is currently running at Brooklyn's Brick Theater, the New York Times reports.

Among the festival's offerings are THEATER OF THE ARCADE, a series of scenes based on old video games.  Among the subjects of these scenes are Pac-Man, Asteroids, and Donkey Kong.  THEATER OF THE ARCADE is aimed at adult audiences.

The festival also features GRAND THEFT OVID, which stars teacher David Kim and his students.  They combine live performance and video games to tell various stories from ancient myth, among them the stories of Icarus and Orpheus.

Other productions include MODAL KOMBAT, in which performers use guitars to control video games.

The Game Play Festival ends on July 25.  The Brick Theater is located at 575 Metropolitan Avenue (near Lorimer Street) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  For more information, including full listings, visit bricktheater.com.
