Forget Those Two Scoundrels! Vote W.C. FIELDS FOR PRESIDENT at 13th Street Rep

By:

Never mind those two scoundrels... vote for THIS scoundrel! It's time to consider W.C. Fields FOR PRESIDENT.

W.C. Fields FOR PRESIDENT, a new play adapted and directed by Trav S.D, based on W.C. Fields' 1939 book, "Fields for President," starring stage clown Glen Heroy as William Claude Dukenfield better known as W. C. Fields will take the stage at the 13th Street Repertory Theater on November 2 @ 7:30 p.m. - less than a week before this year's very "theatrical" election day.

The current production, timed to be concurrent with the 2016 Presidential election season, will include Lauren Milberger as Gracie Allen (who also ran a mock presidential campaign in 1940), and other surprise guests.

This special event is part of Fields Fest, a two-month celebration honoring the life and career of W.C. Fields. Fields Fest was conceived as a follow-up to the very successful citywide Marx Brothers Festival, "Marxfest," co-produced by Trav S.D. in 2014. For information on Fields Fest go to travsd.wordpress.com/2016/09/26/fields-fest-lives. Fields Fest is organized and produced by Trav S.D.

Just in time for the 1940 election season, Fields published his first and only humor book, Fields for President, his whimsical campaign speech, written in the comedian's trademark florid, boastful and alcoholic style. A new edition of Fields for President was published in 2016 by Rowman and Littlefield with a new forward by Dick Cavett.

W.C. Fields (1880-1946) was a stage and screen comedian, screenwriter, writer of theatrical revue sketches, and, in his juggling days, an international star of the vaudeville circuits. He is best known today for such classic Hollywood comedies as You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (1939), My Little Chickadee (1940), The Bank Dick (1940) and Never Give a Sucker an Even Break (1941).

Trav S.D. (Travis Stewart) is best known as the author of the critically-acclaimed 2005 book, No Applause, Just Throw Money: The Book That Made Vaudeville Famous (Faber & Faber), and as the producer/director of 2014 revival of the Marx Brothers' first Broadway show "I'll Say She Is," a hit of the New York International Fringe Festival. He has written for the NY Times, American Theatre, the Village Voice, and Time Out NY, and is the creator of the blog Travalanche (travsd.wordpress.com). His most recent show was "Horse Play," produced by Theatre Askew at La Mama's Ellen Stewart, in 2015.

Glen Heroy is best known as one of the subjects on the 2010 PBS reality series Circus, and for performing as a clown with Big Apple Circus and the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit. He was seen most recently performing with Cynthia Von Buhler's SpeakEasy Dollhouse and Zeigfeld's Midnight Frolic. In addition to Fields, Heroy also professionally performs impressions of Oliver Hardy and has been a Santa Claus at Macy's for 15 years.

W.C. Fields for President will be presented at the 13th Street Repertory Company, 50 West 13th Street, NYC on November 2, 2016 at 7:30pm. Tickets and more information at JMAE.events@gmail.com.
