An Equity stage reading of MARY - A MUSICAL, a story of Mary Magdalene, will be presented on Tuesday afternoon, July 19, 3:00pm, at the Theatre at St. Peter's, home of the York Theatre Company, 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street, NYC. With music and lyrics by Gayla D. Morgan and book by Gayla D. Morgan and Jean Mornard, this new musical tells the story of a woman's struggle toward love in spite of her own defenses. Although she has survived an abusive childhood by embracing suspicion and isolation, Mary discovers peace -- and power -- by learning to choose trust, vulnerability, and community. The show was a finalist in the 2010 Eugene O'Neill NMTC Summer Workshop considerations.

Starring Rebecca Southworth* as Mary, the reading also features Timothy Shew* as Peter, Brian Gallagher* as Jesus, Ron DeStefano* as John, Jeanne lehman* as Mother Mary, and Samara Ehrlich as Young Mary Magdalene. The cast also includes Vivienne Cleary, Danny Katz,* Kristen Michelle,* Bruce Sabath,* Ryan Scarlata, and Maureen Taylor.* Frank Galgano directs, and Matt Castle provides musical direction, with Kate J. Cudworth as stage manager. (* Members Actors Equity)

The reading is free and open to the public. To make reservations, email MaryAMusical@gmail.com or visit the show's website, MaryAMusical.com.
