Catherine Henry & Jonathan Rio Bethea Lead DRIVING MISS DAISY at the Players Theatre, Beginning Today
DRIVING MISS DAISY, the 1988 Pulitzer Prize winning play by Alfred Uhry is staged at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village, beginning today, June 9.
The production will be directed by Allison Gold and feature costumes by Courtney Hansen and a set by Jessie Bonaventure, with lighting by Rome Brown. The production is part of Be Bold! Productions' American Classic series which produced "The Glass Menagerie" in 2015.
Rehearsals began this week with a talented trio of seasoned actor including Catherine Henry as Daisy, Ken Straus as her son, Boolie and Jonathan Rio Bethea as Hoke.
DRIVING MISS DAISY is a 1987 play by Alfred Uhry about the relationship of an elderly white Southern Jewish woman, Daisy Werthan, and her African-American chauffeur, Hoke Colburn, from 1948 to 1973. The play was the first in Uhry's Atlanta Trilogy, which deals with white Jewish residents of that city in the early 20th century.
DRIVING MISS DAISY opens today, June 9 and runs through June 19 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7p and Saturday and Sunday at 2p at the Players Theatre located at 115 MacDougal Street (between Bleecker and West 3rd).
