United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, is proud to announce the nominees for the annual special uAward, which honors outstanding solo performers. These are artists who create captivating performances with sensitivity, audacity, and wisdom. They remind us of the immense power of a single performer, and the possibilities of solo storytelling.

This year, the United Solo board has nominated four performers for the uAward: Daniel Beaty in "Through the Night" (Union Square Theater, NYC), John Lithgow in "Stories by Heart" (performed countrywide), Patti LuPone in "The Gypsy in My Soul" (performed countrywide), and Robin Williams in "Weapons of Self-Destruction" (DVD release).

The recipient of the uAward will be announced at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City, October 20 - November 20, 2011. "We will continue to treasure the uniqueness of solo theatre," says the artistic director of United Solo, Omar Sangare. Last year, the uAward went to Anna Deavere Smith for "Let Me Down Easy." Four-time Academy Award nominee Marsha Mason joined the festival to celebrate and present awards at the Closing Ceremony at the Theatre ROW in the heart of the New York City theatre district on 42nd Street.
